    Worth coming back?

Hey guys, long time. Quick question really: I quit the game way back just before WotG was released, is it worth coming back at this point? Or has the community got any smaller or is there too much new content I need to finish etc? (Also don't have like 5 hours spare a day like I used to lol)

Anyway, your opinions would be welcome thanks in advance.

Level Sync made things a LOT easier. Its now quite simple to form competent groups w/ ideal setups.
Community is...well, in terms of numbers similar to pre-WoTG. WoTG couldnt make a strong impact like ToAU did but my server population is still the same.

WotG has little to no content, if you were bored pre wings, you'll be just as bored post wings unfortunately. I don't know if you got to experience campaign, but campaign added the whole "play for 20mins a day is np" dimension to FFXI, you can fight mobs that are raiding the zone and get a handful of exp for doing so in WotG zones.

If you liked to XP you will probably be thrilled, as Level Sync, Fields of Valor, and Campaign have made it much, much, MUCH easier to xp. But if you want to do endgame content, you'll be disappointed. Nothing much has changed.

Nearly everyone I know who has come back for a specific expansion or event has subsequently gotten bored and quit again. When it comes to longevity, you really either love this game or hate it. If you hated it when you quit, you'll hate it again soon enough.

    For your own good.
    No, stay away.
It's like a drug, or alcohol.
If you manage to get sobered up, you gotta stay clean or it's right back up shits creek.
They've added a lot more casual content, but you're still going to need forever if you're going to get anything done.

Yeah, little to no content SE totally wasted their time here...
    fixed -.-

How much "content" do they need to add until people stop saying this? I can only imagine what these people will say when the new story-only expansions are released.

Nice way to put it into perspective.

I guess it's easy to overlook the details when you're used to non-WotG specific events & content.

There's no denying that WotG has less content than previous expansions (thus far, anyway). However, the content it does have is pretty damn good: Campaign is a great system (and this is coming from someone who can't fucking stand doing Campaign); SCNMs and their respective BCs are very enjoyable with good rewards; the missions, whilst rather short and hardly taxing, have set the foundations for a great story and contain the most well-done cutscenes of any FFXI expansion; Ixion and Sandworm are both very different to any NMs we've fought before, although admittedly Ixion's depopping gimmick is frustrating.

If they add more difficult missions, open up Glacier and Xarcabard, and possibly implement some sort of Sky/Sea system in Walk of Echos, I for one will be more than happy.

Did everyone forget how much "Content" ToAU Had when it was Released? a FEW missions, Some lame quests with lame rewards(outside of a few!), Assault didnt even have all its assaults or ranks yet, Beseiged only went to 5? and merit camps (Some of which weren't even great until damned Bugards were removed).

Now its Probably THE biggest Expansion Content wise we've seen.

Assaults(All the way to Captain), beseiged(Up to 8 Now), Nyzul(100 Floors of torture) , Salvage(added Arguably some of the best armor in game right now), Einherjar, The Serpent General Quests, Completed Mission Storyline, Etc.

So what are we compairing WoTG to in terms of it being "Low on content" when its just following the same damned patern.

When it came out we had Campaign, Nation Specific Quests, Few missions, Campaign OPS, and all the quests offered Amazing Rewards (Mostly for Gobbie bag, but also the Star Globe was fun).

Its not Complete, Just like ToAU Was not complete when it was Released, I don't even remember CoP outside of it being Weakened. All in all, I'm Happy with WoTG, Campaign is Awesome no matter what people want to say about it, Campaign OPS Offer Amazing Rewards if you can capture All the Areas, and Good EXP for low levels as well, the Quests are fun, Missions have the best Cutescenes ive ever seen in this game, and all in all its really interesting seeing how it unfolds. i mean really, did you not see that Elvaan Shield Bash a Demon INTO THE AIR and throw his weapon THROUGH anothers fucking chest? WHATS NOT TO LIKE

its enjoyable, But its not Perfect, and that doesn't mean it wont be in time, it just means theres more to be added, like there has been with all expansions...

The only thing im REALLY waiting for is Xarcabard and the Nation Body Armor

o, one more thing, This missions are kinda easy, And it makes it pretty disappointing when you complete them and it leaves you at a cliff hanger :< But thats my only real complaint about this expansion. also wishing they'd add missions just a LITTLE BIT Faster

This. I've tried to come back two times. One was for WotG release, and the other was ZNM patch. Both times I ended up playing for about 2-3 weeks before canceling my account again.

Problem with coming back during a new expansion release is that you're expecting full content to be ready when SE is basically just opening the door for new content to be added in future updates. That's why you get let down after a few weeks.

Sort of -- Gobbiebag parts VII and VIII were added after the expansion was released, but are started with Bluffnix just like all the others, and do not require WoTG to be installed.

However, several of the more expensive ingredients (Angelstone, Deathstone, Adaman Ingot) are available from WoTG quests, while others are craft-ables based on WoTG materials.

    WoTG added pretty much:

-Sandworm: Fun HNM, pops anywhere across many zones so little Dragon Aery bullshit and Doomvoid ensures you never exactly know what you are going to fight so you always have a little surprise.

-Dark Ixion: Another fun HNM and his behavior in running from areas in campaign or people who dont claim him correctly (you can only claim with stygian ash so... no fucking lvl5 vokebots) make it unique.

Those are the two new HNMs - leaps and bounds beyond the CoP HNMs and better than the ToAU HNMs (3-5day lulz vs roughly 21-24hr repops)

-SCNMs offer a nice challenge in killing 8 NMs then a BCNM within a beastman filled dungeon. Small groups excel here and id liken it to a sky-tier event with decent loot for the time invested.

-Campaign is perpetual Besieged and makes a good substitute to EXP especially when things get slow LFP-wise. It still has many flaws in it but you can use it for buffers and EXP post50 fine.

WOTG isnt packed with events and the expansion is overall very weak (minus the storyline) but those 4 things are pretty much the choices you have within the expansion.

Why can't people do simple math?

How much free time you have now = x
How much free time you had when you quit = y
% of your FFXI time you spent doing something enjoyable = z

    Assuming x < y

(y - x) * 1/z = ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID FIND ANOTHER GAME TO PLAY
