Don't buy refurbished shit....it's mostly garbage.
its from the apple online store, as opposed to some general electronics place, is is still gonna be garbage?
Macworld is next week. I would wait until Tues, Jan 6 just in case anything catches your fancy.
I have a gen 2 nano 8gb, gen 1 ipod 20gb, and two gen1 video 60gb ;/
I think I only paid for the nano lol.
This is what I used for a while, plays video/pics good battery life. However the new Nano's aren't fragile, they are made with wrapped aluminum i think and are actually much more durable - they are just like rounded and rectangular instead of square (which is kind of nice if watching anything on it).
However if you do plan on putting any moving pictures on it, be it tv or movies, absolutely get either a classic or a touch... That screen is just too small and it's a joke to watch videos on - it's a great selling point sure, but it's pretty stupid nonetheless.
Also, Classics are a great bang for you buck. Compare for yourself:
Nano 8GB - $149 (8gb isn't a bad amount)
Nano 16GB - $199 (alot more space if you have lot of crap to put on it)
Classic 120GB - $249 (Look at the jump in GB for just 50$... not to mention, better battery life by far)
Touch 8GB - $229
Touch 16GB - $299
Touch 32GB - $399
The 8GB and 16GB touch aren't that bad of a price, plus it's a fun device... but remember how much you are spending for that extra fun, about 100$ more than a nano with the same storage.
Again, Classic is best bang for your buck. More space then you'll ever use, and amazing battery life. Now, the site says that (and this is news to me) the new Touch has the same battery life as the Classic, which I don't believe. I'm going to assume that's the 32GB model only, but if it's true, then the touch would outweigh the nano, at least for me. If you want something small that you can carry around use in your car, even beat up a little and is just for music, the 8gb nano wins by far. But if you need a little more space or a better device, then I'd seriously consider a classic or touch as both have better viewing space for your eyes for the videos and are just overall better with batterylife and capabilities.
It probably does for music playback. Basically the battery life depends on what you're doing with it. I just got my touch a day ago and you can flip off the backlight/screen and just let it play through your music which gives it great battery life. Video playback uses a ton of CPU time + you need to have the backlight/screen on obviously, so you get a lot less battery time. Also jailbreaking it opens up a ton of awesome things you can do, NES games, DOOM, ALT-TAB-like functionality for any app.Touch has the same battery life as the Classic, which I don't believe.
I doubt his gf is going to jailbreak it and play nes on it.
I've had a touch and have an iphone now. Since the touch came out the classics battery life has been FAR superior, and the highest of any ipod device - so for it to be listed on that site the way it is now with no major improvements to the device I just find it far fetched.
The alt tab functionality is definitely something I think anyone can appreciate, send your music player to the background then open up a game or something.
