I just got off the phone with a Time Warner rep. I won't bore you with the details but the call ended when she shouted, "Go get DirecTV then!", and she hung up on me. I hope they use THAT call for training purposes haha.

When I turned on my TV this morning and tuned into Dora the Explorer for my kid, then I read this scroll on the screen talking about losing Nick + 18 other channels. I called Time Warner and heard what the other stations were, and fucking flipped out on the customer service rep. I expressed with extreme displeasure my feelings about losing all those channels, and would promptly discontinue my service with them. They pulled this same bullshit with a local station recently and on the last day they came to an agreement.

What ya'll don't realize is that it's not Time Warner's fault that they don't carry NFLN or the MTV networks anymore, it's the fault of those networds demandig unreasonable "compensation."

NFLN wanted to be placed on the basic tier for cable, meaning every home would have to have it, and they wanted TW to pay them a set fee PER CUSTOMER for carrying the network. This fee would've just been passed onto every customer, and TW said they wouldn't do that, because it wasn't fair to the customers who didn't want the network in the first place.TW would've been happy to place them on an optional sports tier (like they should've been) but NFLN were greedy SOBs and refused.

MTV network wanted a 30-40% increase in their programming fees (the money that TW pays MTV in order to carry the networks) despite their overall viewing numbers steadily decreasing.

MANY local networks operate on a re-trans agreement with TW, and across the state in many cities their agreements were up for re-negotiation, and they wanted the same thing NFLN did, to be paid per customer instead of a flat rate for their programming, which equates to nothing unique other than their news coverage.

It's not TW's fault, it's the greedy networks.

I'm currently a Comcast subscriber, had DirecTV in the past.

Cable is hardly dead.

More expensive for no good reason, yes, but at least I don't lose my TV when there's a bad storm.

Oh, and I don't have to try to find a way to mount a dish with a clear view of the southern sky that doesn't involve cutting down 100 year old trees or somesuch.

And just for the record, that link says Viacom is asking for an extra $39 million/year. That's about $.50/mo customer, as a very round number.

Makes TWC's complaint that it will cost the consumer a lot extra kind of silly, but by the same token it's still a pretty ludicrous request since there's no compelling reason why their (mostly shitty) content should suddenly go up in price by a significant percentage.

p.s. Comcast sucks, but everyone else pretty much sucks equally, so it really is six of one, half dozen of the other. You end up with a different perspective when you work in the industry (I work for a vendor who sells to all the major players) and hear/see a lot of things that don't necessarily translate cleanly to the end user.

I work as a Technical Support Supe at TWC here in San Antonio...We are doing everything we can. But from what I see, Viacom is being a big dick about it

And as far as NFL network goes, they want us to carry the channel on our Basic line up, so even customer who don't want it or don't watch it, will be paying extra for it regardless... We want to atleast have it on our spoets tier for customer to purchase if they wish to do so. Comcast was able to get it on their sports tier after 2 years of battle...all the money people from comcast buy it goes directly to the NFL network...so it's not like they are loosing any money...they are just being dicks about it

And fuck TWC, I worked for them in the past when I was in college for some 2 1/2 years. They are a joke company who's bottom line is money, money and more money. I mean, charging every single customer 100-150 a month for basic service packages and they cant seem to understand why viacom is bitching and wanting a larger slice of the pie? I know I am skimming the surface, but im drinking and don't feel like typing a fucking novel.

This is reminiscent of Oil companies not understanding how making 10 billion dollars in quarterly profits angers people. For the record I worked at the corporate office here in Charlotte, just incase anyone feels like getting butt hurt and want to start "bangin' and dissin' mah street cred". Word.

tl;dr version: TWC is more than fine with raping its entire customer base on a monthly basis, but they get offended when someone tries to rape them? Cry me a fucking river.
