PSP just not worth it anymore?

Only difference between DS and PSP is that DS you have to buy a flash cart (like $30 now) and PSP you just need to have an older version to install custom firmware, or borrow/buy a pandora battery (no idea price, I made my own)

Both of them require memory sticks (as low as $15 for DS ones since they're smaller, around $45~60 for a nice 8gig for the psp)

The main difference is that psp games are often over 1 gig, while the biggest DS game I've seen was 256MB (most of them being 64~128] and that you can easily find direct links on sites like ds-rom-news. PSP you pretty much have to torrent it.

Also, imo, I'm agreeing with Priran (strangely.) I've gotten A LOT more use out of my PSP than my DS. I've found most DS games to be either gimmicky or boring, or they're just too fucking short. There are a few good games, but they're not as plentiful as people go around saying they are.

If any of you saw the Valkyria Chronicles reviews in the Random Image Thread, the article pretty much reminded me of that.

IMO, any failures come from the new "casual gaming", "family friendly" and "kiddy" market that the DS owns.

Though I am pissed that the only GG on DS is that bullshit abortion of a game, and the only thing remotely close to a decent fighting game is jump superstar. In that regard, I do wish I have bought a PSP since it actually have a good GGXX port, but then again I was never really good at it.

If you can get past the shitty IP the Bleach games are good fighters. JUS is about as much a fighting game as Brawl is.

For me the 2000 model is pure gaming bliss, I can't see anything wrong w/ it honestly. And yeah, it only has the microphone as a bonus.

Sony tried to make it multi-functional by adding in all the extra goodies (such as a music player, ability to watch movies, ect...) and they came out w/ a big hand-held product that you can't just toss in your pocket like the DS or Iphone. If they released a version w/o some of those useless goodies then it could be smaller and would appeal to a more general audience. It's true Sony has had some awesome titles released this year (for PSP and PS3), but wasn't there less than 100 new games released for the PSP this year? That's pretty bad

...all of that is software. Removing it wouldn't make the device any smaller. Like 2/3 of the PSP's size (lenthwise) is its screen, the rest is buttons. They can make the internals smaller to make it thinner, but that's about it. Shrinking the entire thing would mean a smaller, lower resolution screen and tiny buttons. I'll pass.

I was going to buy a PSP just for all the Tales games available on it. Seriously, there's so many good PS2 Tales games on it. The PSP also has Valkyrie Profile and some Star Ocean game, among other good ports. I could hack it as well and save a lot of money. I don't know, I think it's a good buy still. I want one for my birthday.

I'm fully aware that the only difference in config is 1 less analog and L2,R2, what I meant was the shape of PSX/PS2 controller for fighting game button mashing comfortability

The added features you listed have nothing to do w/ the actual size, if it had like a mini keyboard or w/e, then I'd somewhat agree w/ you. Those features mentioned are implemented because the PSP is inherently capable of doing them. If you start by removing the d-pad, analog, and buttons to make it smaller; you'll end up w/ anything but a portable gaming system and end up w/ say a touch.

I would say the PSP is worth it. I recently purchased a 200 and I'm going to get it load some CFW soon as my Battery arrives. I would second what most people have said though, that it's definitely worth it for CFW as well as Remote Play w/your PS3 (love it). Also, it's going to be less than the new DSi iirc, since the DSi is going to be around $200 I thought. Honestly, I can't wait for the DSi either, since it is inevitable someone will figure out how to hack it and I can just use the SD Slot to keep my old NES Roms. <3 DS & PSP
