Windows 7 beta seems to be giving out the same keys - dslreports.com
Microsoft is giving out the same 10 keys (5 32-bit, 5 64-bit) to everyone since they decided to allow unlimited downloads for two weeks. Use any of these keys on as many systems as you would like. :D
Well i got windows 7 running on my new core i7 build and man is it fast
installed vista first and played around with it and it was alot faster then vista on my old PC now with windows 7 i can see a difference in speed on the same hardware so its definitly faster
iam installing FFXI now and ganna play around with it see if i can get it running with windower
Spec's
eVGA x58 x3sli
Core i7 920(running at stock speed till my TRUE black comes)

WD Caviar Black 1tb 7200 RPM data drive

Damnest thing. I have FFXI installed, and every expansion except "Wings of the Goddess." Why? It won't install. It says FFXI isn't installed on the machine, and that I should try again when it is. I had to format for unrelated reasons, and so I tried reinstalling it on a new Server 2008 install, annnd -- nope! Still didn't work.
Personally, I'm not that interested in fixing it, I just think it's absolutely hilarious that the newest expansion doesn't work while all the old ones do.
That's unusual, i had no problem installing WoTG at all, i popped in the cd and installed like normal
Yeah, it does seem that my situation is unique. Not quite sure why it's happening, but it's amusing nonetheless. I'll tinker with it when I actually have a need to visit WotG zones.
Well went back to vista for testing kept getting BSOD turns out 2 of my 3 GPU are faulty >.>
i have an extra hard drive from my old PC if i install windows 7 on there will it show up like dual boot or will i have to pick HDD i want to boot from each time?ganna do it either way just would like to know what to expect
It really depends on your boot settings, but it should show up which one you want to pick unless you specify which one to boot from first
When you say don't install it to program files, you mean install to C:\Program files (x86) or C:\(anything)?
Is anyone else running FFXI in Server 2008 and noticing that it operates horribly? I have an 8800GTS and 4GB of RAM, and it won't even run smoothly if I put it in a little 800x600 window. It's ridiculous that I'll have to reboot and go into XP x64 for reasonable performance.
If anyone else has overcome this, I'd love to hear your suggestions. Turning off transparency, various Windows features, et cetera, does nothing.
If I recall Server 2008 is missing a few key graphics options by default, but I've never bothered using it myself. Could be your gfx drivers just don't support Server 08.
When I install the newest set, they recognize it as Windows 7 and everything. Meh. I tried using an old, "safe for FFXI" set, and of course they identified it as Vista, but it doesn't run any better (or worse, really). Bummer.
Anyone was able to install Daemon tools on Windows 7?
Each time it ask me to reboot, and after the install starts back at 0
and it doesn't appear in Program Files
When I went to install an ISO loader, I read that everyone was having trouble with Daemon Tools. I went with Power ISO. The trialware version is enough to mount ISOs to a virtual drive, the limitations only kick in when trying to make ISOs, which I'd use other stuff for anyway.
I installed Office 07 and VSTS08 on my work laptop using it, and didn't have any problems.
Edit: What I'd like to know is - anyone running official XI on Windows 7 with NVIDIA - Do you still have the same problems you did before with the horrible framerates? I'm going to be building a new PC soon, and I already know ATI is a safe bet, but I'm wondering if the problem still manifests.
Cutriss, I've run FFXI on XP, Vista, and W7 and I'm running an Nvidia 8800GTS with no problems on any system.
I believe the main problem with FFXI and Windows 7 is the fact that Windower won't hook FFXI, but people have reported that FFXI works just fine on windows 7.
LOL, SOWS IS STALKING ME
A lot of people had NVIDIA problems in Vista (and XP to a lesser extent) so if you didn't have those problems at all, then I don't think you're really answering the heart of the question. Then again, it might be that the WHQM drivers supplied with 7 don't have the issue.
Oh well, kinda moot at this point for me, I ordered an A780 motherboard, and if the onboard isn't strong enough to handle XI, I can pursue an external card at that point, but I don't see any reason why it should have trouble (especially with a quad-core Phenom II in it).
I didn't know you were playing FFXI again :O
