    Phoenix FTW~

I am downloading Windows 7 as of right now and ill post my results probably in a day.

    My rigs specs are:

    Phenom 9850 running at 3gigz
Nvidia 280 (OC'd at factory settings)
    8gigz 1066mhz
    10k rpm HDD for 160gigz

PS: on Vista I get arround 14-20 fps @ Whitegate AH (lowest FPS I could get in game). Lets see how Windows7 performs.

If someone can get windower working, seems that this might be worth considering as an alternative to XP x64... maybe. I want more numbers...

Is it true there will be a graphical update with one of these expansion chapters?

Wishful thinking by someone on the otherWiki, no basis in fact AFAIK.

I just wanted to post my experience with Windows 7 and FFXI. So far it works great using the 32-bit RC (Build 7100) on my HP Laptop. I'm not using Windower, but instead just the plain old SE Windowed Mode.

It seems as if the "Smooth Shading" of XP's Windowed Mode has gone to a more aliased look in 7... ( I can liken it to how PSX games on the PS2/3 can run with/without filtering, in 7 it seems to look as if there is no texture filtering.) It may be just my video card driver as full screen is fine. Also Windowed Mode (not sure about Windower) appears to support VSync, I'm not getting the "tearing" I did in XP.

Currently putting Windows 7 64-bit on my main desktop rig to test FFXI. I can share my findings if anyone is interested.

    Laptop: HP Pavilion dv9000. Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz, 2GB PC2-5300, GeForce Go 7600 256MB.

Desktop: Self Built, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 2GB PC2-6400, Geforce 7950 GT.

Supporting VSync isn't Windower's responsibility. You can set your graphics card to override any software's native settings, thus enabling it in windowed FFXI.

That aside, use Windower, not SE's built-in windowed mode. If you're concerned with performance and appearance, it's superior.

Notice: Vsync is not something you can enable in Windows Vista 32/64 using normal methods. Something about the OS architecture caused this to occur; information about it is available on both nVidia and ATI resources. You'll have to use a 3rd party tool.

Anyone know if this is still applicable for Windows 7? Something I'd be interested in learning~ along with 3rd party driver support without the requirement of ReadyDriver or a BCD edit.

For all intents and purposes 7 is very similar to Vista down in many of the core areas. Vista drivers for the most part work just fine on 7. Odds are that problem will persist with 7 as well unless they tweaked something, and if they did you'd probably need to use the new NVidia/ATi 7 drivers.

It seems to be very all up in the air right now. The only Windower that's pretty much guaranteed to work with Windows 7 is v4 alpha but v3 plugins won't work with it. I'm running Windows 7 7600 x64 and the only way I can get v3 to work is to fire up v4, let it load pol (don't login), fire up v3 and login, close v4 and continue to game on the v3 window. Provided I do that every time I fire up the game windower works exactly as it should. If I don't I crash to desktop when I click the play button. The windower author is in the process of converting many popular plugins over to the new LUA format of v4.

Thank you for this information. I just installed Windows 7 on my new laptop hard drive and was about to format and go to Vista because of this.

i'm running windows 7 ultimate build x32 (for some reason it automatically installed 32bit instead of 64, but w/e) and i've gotten everything that i need to run on it, including windower, with the exception of IME for FFXI.

i can get IME working on AIM, email, internet sites, notepad, word, EVERYTHING....but not FFXI.

anyone have any idea if there's any patch or anything for IME to get it to work? i tried setting all regional and non-unicode settings to japanese, but it still didn't work

You mean format so you can get rid of all the bloatware a laptop comes with and install a fresh win7 right?

Anyone have a problem getting their mouse to work while running windower under win 7? I got windower to work by loading windower 4 and then 3.41 with the new hook but my mouse will not work in the ffxi window. This leads to a lot of retarded camera spinning when I use the mouse outside of the window, or if I move the mouse accidentally. I've tried enabling/disabling the hardware mouse option in the config and there wasn't any change. Any suggestions?
