For those running Windows™ Sidebar Gadgets in the background to get into the game. I suggest using either of these lightweight gadgets if you prefer to use them over the built-in calendar.

I personally don't like the second one, but to each his own.

edit: I have been in my personal time working on, and modding the original gadget (the first one I posted) to a more easier-on-the eye look.

I know old thread is old - but just got shiny new PC and trying to get XI working (and can't live without windower).

Can get the game to load fine - but whatever I have the settings as for windower - it's loading in windower version of full screen for me - can't get the title bar and border window to show up. I know it's something incredibly obvious I'm missing - just can't figure out what.

    Edit: NVM fixed!

Just tacked on a bit of info for 64 bit users of Windows 7, there's been alot of crashing problems for many users, and thought I would a neat trick I found that worked and posted on the windower forums.

I'm running 64 bit Windows and apart from my initial brainfart - it installed and is going on Windower with no problems (pulled the Windower folder over from my old XP machine and just got the new hook file).

I sat in dynamis last night amazed at the graphical effects I've had glitched up on me for the last 4 years... was sat there like "damn the animation for induration is really pretty"... and that's after the shock of it not taking 10 minutes to zone out of my WG mog house like it usually does.

I is impressified... now I've found where the Microsoft "hiding all your useful functions" have put all the bits of the virtual scavenger hunt this time around.

ACTUALLY fixed the IR Device bug. Can someone tell me if dual box controllers work now?
Changed some code regarding creatiing device so some onboard graphics will work properly.
    Fixed //minimize
Also if your shit is still crashing read the link/post completely.

Edit: RC5 out now, fixed a lot of the "crash on play" problems for of Windows 7 users supposedly.

(I've never encountered that issue short of the gadget trick problem).

Fixed my dual boxing issues and minimize, excellent! Now to see if I can use the latest Nvidia drivers without it completely breaking Windower.

Had a quick question regarding this....

Thinking about buying a new pc that has Windows 7 on it, I currently use Windows XP 32 bit, computer was purchased brand new in 03 right before XI was released. I read in the ealier pages in this thread to just install the cds/dvds on to the new machine and then update via pol, doing a clean install, my question is by doing that would I need to get new cd registration codes for each expansion? Or is there a way to carry over all the old data? I'd really hate to have to purchase new cd key codes and register my content all over again unless I absolutely needed to.

No, you're fine. Reg keys are one-time bind on account.

I seem to be having a problem getting this to work on my new machine. I installed all the disks and expansions but when I try to open pol, it does nothing for me. This is without windower, just plain regular mode....am I missing something here? Why won't windows 7 run this for me? I've tried using the desktop shortcut and opening it from the PlayOnline folder itself...nothing.

Edit: As a side note what's the difference in folders of Program Files and Program Filesv(x86?)

Ok I've gotten as far now as starting up PlayOnline and everytime I try to start it, I get a message that says "playonline viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder. Please check your access privileges."

I've changed this setting about ten times now to allow full access to me, and it's being retarded. What's with all this special access crap anyway, what happened to the simplicity of XP where you just double clicked something to run it. Sorry to be a pain, I'm new to Windows 7....and this is pissing me off lol.

First off, did you completely uninstall the "disc/old" POL you installed first before you installed the Vista/Windows 7 version?

Secondly, are you the administrator account on the PC? Do you have UAC completely disabled?

    Lastly go to

    "C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer"

Right click the POL.exe icon, properties. Compatibility tab, "Change settings for all users.". "Run this Program as administrator", check it. Hit "OK" and close.

    Repeat this same process for Windower;

"C:\Program Files\Windower" (Or wherever you installed the folder to)

Launcher.exe is the file to apply the steps above.

Yea I'm the only one who uses this pc, it's brand new and I'm logged in as the admin. I uninstalled every expansion along with the original pol/FF before downloading that link you provided.

What's UAC? And I have the tab clicked already to run as admin.

Ok I turned that off by moving the slider all the way to never notify like it said to do, still have everything else checked off that you suggested and I'm still getting the same message. Any idea what else could be causing this?
