I used to, hated clicking with a mouse through the menus in POL when I was on the couch. Configure/Enable controller & :3

I'll probably be switching to 64bit Win 7 soon. My question is:

Can you transfer the FFXI folder and reg entries and run a batch file to register the dlls as you would do on Win XP? If you don't know what I'm talking about look up "ways to transfer FFXI without installing", I'm sure its on the windower forums where I first learned it.

Also, would I need to download a 64 bit version of POL from somewhere?

You can save & transfer the ROM and sound folders without any problems, but other than that I would personally do a fresh reinstall.

There's no 64-bit version of PoL - you do need the Vista/7 version though.

Technically you could put the registry entries in, register DLLs, all that...but it's not quite as straightforward since 64-bit has a separate section of the registry for 32-bit apps/etc. Easier thing to do, IMO, is just run the installer for the basic game, then dump your old folder on top of that.

Thanks for the replies, so use my 2004 discs to install the game and then paste my XP game folder(I want to preserve my macros and map markers) on top of it, followed by installing the Vista/7 POL on top of all that?

Would be easier to rewrite the reg entries in the Windows-on-Windows section of the 64 bit registry (I think that's where they go for 32 bit apps), but I'm not sure if the syntax for registering dlls would still be
    regsvr32 /s "FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXiMain.dll" etc.

Yeah, install the downloaded PoL first.

All you need to do install-wise is install the base game. Not even expansions or anything else. The FFXI registry entries would go in the WOW6432Node, if you were doing it that way, but unless you're going to do this a lot, it seems simpler to me to just take the couple minutes to run the installer and have it do it for you. Then just copy your old folder over top of it. It'll need to do a file check when you start up, but otherwise should be good to go, preserving your macros/etc.

i am having this stutter problem just like god knows how many people using Windows 7 and after trying all these solutions including running as admin, disabling QoS pocket scheduler from network settings, disabling controllers and other USB devices, downloading vista/w7 compatible POL, installing the directx provided in my vanadiel collection disc, nothing works... and about those stupid driver problems; no, i am not using an nvidia card but ATI HD4800. in short, i am out of solutions and my head is about to explode.

anything else i should try besides drivers? i just hope it is not a driver issue because i dont wanna start hunting for some ancient, god forsaken driver to play... it is so annoying that i can run the game without any problem on my ancient laptop with windows xp while i can't on this thousand times better system.

Ok I just got a new PC last night and I'm trying to set up windower to work on it. I everything mentioned in this thread, DLed the Vista/Windows7 POL, installed FFXI after and FFXI works jsut fine. Bu when I try to run windower when it goes from POL to FFXI it says windower has stopped working and crashes. So far, I'ved DLed the hook.dlls that have been posted and put directly into the windower folder as instructed but no dice. Infact the only thing that I've seen mentioned in this thread that works remotely is to run IE in the background.. but upon getting into the game and closing IE thinking it's safe to do so, I get that annoying error again. So I guess what I'm asking is.. how do I get this error to stop happening without having to use IE?

quick edit: even with the widgets posted before, i still crash..

Edit2: -_- figures I get it to work after a 3rd time putting the hook from this link into the folder.. http://forums.windower.net/topic/148...78#entry193278 Seriously, lol. I'm so mad at that right now. ._.

I was in Dynamis this evening when my computer crashed (not sure why, yet). It restarted, everything came back up normally. I got POL Viewer running, logged in, etc. Everything came up (and still comes up) just fine until I hit enter or click on Select a Character. At that point, POL crashes. I have tried this with and without Windower. I have also tried it in POL's windowed mode. I've uninstall and reinstalled my graphics drivers, to no avail. Ran Check Files, let it do it's thing and was still unable to get to the Select a Character screen. Did a System Restore to yesterday (Hail Mary), but nothin'.

Anyone have any other suggestions before I spend a horrific amount of time reinstalling FFXI?

Sorry for posting in such an old sticky but I figured I'd get things sorted out BEFORE my new PC parts arrive in the mail. I'm getting Radeon 6950 card and want to make sure I grab drivers that aren't going to make XI choke and die on me. Is the current catalyst driver version awesome or should I be looking at one of the older ones?
