    xbox saves and data

So I have my 360 and it has a ton of saves and data on it from games I have been playing. For some reason tonight I decided to hook it up to xbox live and sign up for my 1 month free trial.

After I was done setting up my profile and gamertag I noticed that all my saved data and all my achievements are gone.

I had never hooked it up to the internet before. I set up my online gamertag to be the same as my profile name.

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to have to play through all my games again to unlock everything I had unlocked.

Is there a way to restore all my data?

You have to tie in your xbox live account to you non-live account. Just because it's the same name doesn't mean they are automatically the same.

how do I do that? I unplugged my network cable and signed off and turned off my console and turned it back on and all my data is still gone.

Ok, when you turn on the xbox, do you have auto sign in turned on? And if so, does it sign into the xbox live account, or your old, non live account? If it's still your live account, you can sign into your old account and all your stuff should be there by just signing into it like normal.
I'm not exactly sure on the particulars on the updating one account to xbox live if you've already started a separate account, but I know you can upgrade a non live account to a live account and keep all your saved stuff linked to the new live account.

When I go to the user data in the console shouldn't it list both ID's? How do I turn off auto-sign in? Where do I go to change the profile I am signed into? When I go to the change profile it only lists the one xbox live profile.

You created a profile instead of registering your offline profile as XBL enabled.

You should be able to still register the offline profile, but by creating the other one with the same name as your offline profile, you've screwed yourself out of your desired gamertag (it will tell you it's already in use) and will have to change your offline profile's tag once enabled, and your 1 month trial is already in effect on that account as well which makes it unredeemable on your offline profile.

Your only choices are a) stick with the new profile and buy a memory unit so you can transfer the game saves (or go without), b) enable your offline profile and retrieve all your saves and simply ignore the new profile/delete it from your box.

You also cannot use the same email address/password as the XBL gamertag you've already registered when enabling your offline account, since they are already tied to the original.

Well my game saves and my offline profile are SO much more important to me than the free trial so how do I do that thing where I enable the offline profile and retrieve all my saves?

I'm going to assume you already have the NXE downloaded since you've connected to live already.

While signed in to your offline profile (you should see your avatar/gamerscore), you want to go to your profile page (the 2nd panel from the My Xbox menu). Once there you should see an option that says "Join Xbox LIVE", at which point it will walk you through the same steps for email, registration, etc. As I said above you'll probably be prompted to change your gamertag since you've already occupied the identical name with the other account.

Once done you should be able to sign in to XBL (and xbox.com) and see your gamerscore, achievements, and saves.

To delete the other account (with only one, the system *should* auto sign you in I believe...), go to System Settings (last panel on My Xbox slot), then to Memory, select your HDD, and select Gamer Profiles. Select the erroneous one and hit Delete (it should be obvious by profile size, the one with all the saves and achievements should be much larger by comparison unless you've already been downloading a bunch of shit with the new one).

the problem is I don't know how to sign into my offline profile or at least I don't see the option anymore. I just see the online profile that is the only one that shows up. And when I go to the last page that shows the data on my HD it does not show any data for any games anymore at all.

If you're already signed into the online profile, then there should be an option from that profile (again, 2nd panel from My Xbox) that says Sign Out or Switch Profile.

You can also hit the guide button (the xbox logo) on your controller and press X to sign out.

Ah ok. Thanks Nore. I will try that and see if my offline profile shows up again.
