Avatars killing FPS

I have a pretty good computer... Quad Core, dual video cards, 4gb ram, I play FFXI at 1920x1200 oversampled 2048x2048 and get a constant 30FPS everywhere. However 2 things just KILL my fps and its always down to 10 and holds constant there... Avatars and Telepoints. Anyway have any clue why or if there is some way to fix it without changing my graphics?

Telepoints and duststorms do my new PC in, I think it has something to do with the way it was ported from the PS2. Avatars are ok for the most part, though. What you could do is .dat swap your avatars to ones with no glow (or just to something else entirely), it's a pretty easy fix. Couldn't tell you how to make it better with the glow though.

Unfortunately I only know of a few and they may not really be of the avatars. Go to o.O.o Final Fantasy XI Dats o.O.o - Create | Comment | Contribute, they should have something. (personally I think if you used Pixelpink's no-glow elemental sprites in place of the avatars if you like them it would cut your lag completely).

Welp I have fixed the problem... I forgot I upgraded my drivers to the newest ones when I bought Warhammer Online... Downgraded to the 175.16 FFXI Fix Drivers and everything seems to be working as normal again! Thanks though for all the suggestions

You know that Quad Core doesn't do you much, gaming wise? anyway w/e.

I'm guessing your problem could be corrupted DATs(Im leaning toward this the most), or bad/old graphics drive.

well my system is similar to you.
Im using 4870 ATI card also getting 28.9 FTP everywhere

i dont use that high resolution, but rather use 1028x768 because i usually open 2-3 ffxi windows these days

and im not other with the avatar yet......to be honest you should try Sandoria and those christmas trees will prolly give u more problems lol

a thousand times this. i use a mule on an old, old computer sometimes to teleport myself, and it drives me apeshit. anyone else have this problem and figure out a way to solve it? i'm guessing you can't use dats to fix it.

You can change virtually anything in this game, I'm certain you can change a telepoint to something different so it doesn't pwn your PC.

Yeah.... this. This shit always owns me especially when I'm dual boxing and port myself.
