I really wouldn't quite say PW is ToaU version of AV.

Has any shell yet managed to get AV down to 5% without usiong any form of hack / zerg rush / exploit?

At least PWs eems a lot more beatable, concidering it's only been a couple months and we as a community have already multiple times gotten him down to final stage. Without any exploiting.

I'm still guessing SE has implimented some retardedly obscure form of trick or whatever to defeating PW and AV, and have dropped some hints here and their we've all missed.

They overdid it. Simple enough. They're beatable under certain circumstances, but SE made the circumstances to... particular?

    /shrug

There's probably some random line in one of the hundreds of CSs in toau, where some nc drops a line that gives you a hitn about pw, then somwhere else they drop a line that connects to give you a vieled answer.

Then you take that and cross reference with another couple CSs where you now have a code name for what PW is, like "The great dark one" or whatever, then viewign that Cs and checking it gives you the answer that "omfg if you throw a pebble at him he wont use astral flow!" or some random thing like that.

In other words, SE made the method to obtain thye answer wayyyyyy to convoluted to get it, but once we find it we'll be like "omfg duh"

For example, the whole trading exactly 2716 gil to the moblin for entrance to mine shaft #2716... Took us a while to figure out, but now we're like "oh for the... why did we not think of that >.<"

In other words SE just needs to drop us some slightly more obvious hint somewhere. A lot more obvious then whatever wherever they gave us...

    Ok.. sooooo...

I looked up some stuff on wiki and wikipedia and cross referenced. I'm wonering if maybe SE is expecting us to reference from actual mythology to the game, and here's something I came up with, first off...

Dvergr is the old Norse word
Ok, so PW is.. a dwarf? Ok, now wiki also showed some famous weapons / armor created by the drawf kings, specificly 2 relic weapons and this...

Brisingamen - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

Now at the bottom the briingamen hs something interesting, I'll stick it here for you guys.

In Norse mythology, Brisingamen was a legendary necklace worn by the goddess Freya. It was made primarily from amber and gold. It had the power to make its wearer’s charm irresistible to all mortals and gods. Brisingamen also gave favorable luck to whichever side in a battle its wearer favored. The necklace was forged by 4 Dwarves (Dvalin, Berling, Alfrik, and Grer). In order to obtain this necklace, Freya had to spend 1 night with each of the 4 Dwarves.
Hmm, well thats interesting but it may just be SE grabbing names from random names from mythlogy. But I looked up some names from other Toau stuff, and lo and behold, at least 85% of them are all norse mythology.

It seems CoP is mostly based on abrahamic stuff, whereas ToAU follows more norse and greek mythology. Ok, interesing...

Here's some more stuff from wikipedia now on the brisingamen..

Freyja was a human in Asia and was the favorite concubine of Odin, King of Asialand. When this woman wanted to buy a golden necklace (no name given) forged by four dwarves (named Dvalinn, Alfrik, Berling, and Grer), she offered them gold and silver but they replied that they would only sell it to her if she would lie a night by each of them. She came home afterward with the necklace and kept silent as if nothing happened. But a man called Loki somehow knew it, and came to tell Odin. King Odin commanded Loki to steal the necklace, so Loki turned into a fly to sneak into Freyja's bower and stole it. When Freyja found her necklace missing, she came to ask king Odin. In exchange for it, Odin ordered her to make two kings, each served by twenty kings, fight forever unless some christened men so brave would dare to enter the battle and slay them. She said yes, and got that necklace back. Under the spell, king Högni and king Heðinn battled for one hundred and forty-three years, as soon as they fell down they had to stand up again and fight on. But in the end, the Christian lord Olaf Tryggvason, who has a great fate and luck, arrived with his christened men, and whoever slain by a Christian would stay dead. Thus the pagan curse was finally dissolved by the arrival of Christianity. After that, the noble man, king Olaf, went back to his realm
    ...

Well 2 kings, mayhaps dverger and the main form, along with 20 kings (typo? knights) Pretty close to the 18 forms you have to slay plus the two main forms originally...

I'm not saying brisingamen will make you ungodly vs PW, or that it will do anything at all.

But I am sayign there are a lot of connections between toau plot and norse mythology.

In fact lots of ff are linkable to mythology, take a look at this...

Midgard is a realm in Norse mythology. Pictured as placed somewhere in the middle of Yggdrasil, Midgard is surrounded by a world of water, or ocean, that is impassable. The ocean is inhabited by the great sea serpent Jörmungandr (Miðgarðsormr), who is so huge that he encircles the world entirely, grasping his own tail. The concept is similar to that of the Ouroboros

    ...

According to the Eddas, Midgard will be destroyed at Ragnarök, the battle at the end of the world. Jörmungandr will arise from the ocean, poisoning the land and sea with his venom and causing the sea to rear up and lash against the land. The final battle will take place on the plain of Vígríðr, following which Midgard and almost all life on it will be destroyed, with the earth sinking into the sea.
    farther down...

The role-playing game Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation features Midgar, a divided city where the human population inhabits different enclosed sections all meeting at a central hub, which is clearly a nod to the Norse mythos. Another city is Nibelheim, apparently taken from the Norse realm of Niflheim. At the nearby swamp resides the Midgar Zolom, a giant serpent, referencing Midgardsormr, the Midgard Serpent. When transcribed into Japanese kana syllabary, Sormr (スオルム, suorumu?) and Zolom (ゾロム, zoromu?) are very similar in pronunciation.
tl;dr: SE just lurves putting in references to various mythologies, and maybe the trick to these monsters lies therein...

Well how else is Square Enix going to keep your subscriptions? If AV/PW could be defeated, what then? What would you do with yourselves if you longer had any reason to whine about how that evil SE made them unbeatable?

^Yeah, because the only reason most of us keep playing is so that we can one day beat AV and PW. Oh wait, I forgot, most of us don't really give a shit.

It's hard to tell at times reading this board. I mean, I was surprised at all that bawling over the Salvage fix, since with everyone's obsession with AV this past year that I didn't think you guys even cared about anything else in the game.

    Well it is their pattern.

I can name so damn many bosses and such in ffxi alone that all have a special item to gimp them and make the battle actually possible, or just easyer.

Nearly every megaboss in every other ffxi is like that, only problem is ones in this one are 10x more convoluted

then again, from SE's perspective it would make a bit of sense considering the massive user base, not just 1 20 year old playing the game by themself...

But they way over did it, simple enough. There's some random weapon/item / piece of gear somewhere, that when you use it / equip it, it will make the fight soo much easyier. And somewhere some random ??? or tiny CS line dropped by npc we were told what it is. The problem is it's too small. Way too small.

The bosses are possible, and the results just aren't worth it.

But then again, who seriously kills PW for drops? You kill him to say "hah, we did it! We're going down in ffxi historyyyy"

Come on, it's SE. the guys that made emerald weapon do damage based on materia equipped. Made a boss hidden behind a secret room you had to walk behind folaige to get to.

Made a secret boss you had to kill 100 tonberry to fight.

These are the guys that made the god damn golden chocobo.

Who here could've 100% any of the ff games without the guide telling them all those secrets?

Who would've thought that the very hidden and dropped lines in the 3 magazines you collected actually told you to collect 10 of each item briefly mentioned, then find the ring, use the ring and summon doomtrain?

Or how about the 10 secret fairy battles in ff9 that then unlocked the ability to deal physical damage to ozma?

Or pupu? You honestly say you could've gotten pupu card in ff8 without the guide?

And how about the magic record player in ff9? You needed to buy 3 seemingly useless items then click the item in a out of the way village, and it plays music!

Once again without the guide you'd have no idea whatsoever.

I can go on for hours naming off the thousands of hidden secrets in all the ff games. And pretty much every single one of them relied on either A. you having the guide or B. you picking up on some cleverly hidden, easily missed line dropped somewhere in the game.

Same almost 100% entirely obviously goes for PW and AV. SE did it for the other 12 +5 or so spin off games, why the hell not ff11?

    Scratch that they already did...

Sky gods I think are the only mobs with an item to gimp them. (and aren't mission/quest mobs)

When you trade the pirate chart.. you fish real fast for the snares.

Use the snare on the NMs that spawn, and they won't 2hr. That is how you beat it without having to use a specialized setup or your own 2hrs.

they're fished up in the quest itself though, while it takes a bit to figure out it's internal and not at all like the brisingamen suggestion or CoP boss weakeners

*nods* but I hope you guys see the pattern. So damn many mobs have item that gimp them. And concidering vast majority of them are cop... well. ^_^

And the brisingam thign wasnt theory. It was just a random thing saying "this is possiblem, but not likely in any way"

Call it a springboard if you will. anyone know nay other norse mythology offhand concerning dwarves? I think at leats the enxt ls that does this should just geta random member to wear the bris while fighting, just to see.

What do you lose? Hell if it's right day you might gain something =P
