    Ideal alliance

Just for the hell of it, I was thinking of ideal circumstances where everybody is on time and is on for the same amount of time in an alliance. I was thinking what would be the minimum jobs leveled to be competent in all areas of the game. Of course, if 14 more (as if I had that many) of my friends started playing and created new characters, I'd insist they all are Pigtail Tarus and Elv Fs, though the jobs are what I was debating the most. Here's what I came up with (including my jobs and the 3 friends I do have that play), and all these would be their 75s, not mentioning subs:

    1. RNG NIN WHM SAM (me)
    2. PLD WAR MNK (friend)
    3. DRK RDM (friend)
    4. SMN COR (friend)
    5. BRD RDM
    6. BRD PLD
    7. BRD THF
    8. BLM RNG
    9. BLM WHM
    10. BLM COR
    11. BLM MNK
    12. BLM SAM
    13. WHM SCH
    14. WAR RNG
    15. DRK NIN
    16. DRK DRG
    17. SAM DRG
    18. SAM THF

This leaves a nice even spread of the useful endgame jobs and some that are very situational, but there just in case.
    3 RNG, 2 NIN, 3 WHM, 3 SAM, 2 MNK, 2 WAR, 3 DRK, 2 RDM, 1 SMN, 2 COR, 3 BRD, 5 BLM, 2 PLD, 2 THF, 1 SCH, 2 DRG.
I tried to arrange the jobs so that merits (like -enm for #13 or ignoring Sword merits and just getting Scythe and GSword merits on #3) could be utilized without consequence, or very few.

What I wanted to see was if I was going overkill on some jobs, and missing others. Also, what do you think would be more ideal setups for some characters? Make all the PLDs also level NIN because I'm never going to need 2 PLDs and 2 NINs at any one time? Change job combinations to better suit possible merts? etc.

There is no such thing as an ideal alliance.

Aren't moderators supposed to be the shining example of what not to do in Standard? I didn't ask people to prove the existence of God, I just asked if there were some jobs that were being over looked. Post an answer, delete the thread, or just let it get lost to the other many pages of old threads.

Its not like he was trolling. That's an extremely valid response.

Having a tank, a healer, and Elegy is really the foundation of any easy battle. Beyond that, the biggest difference is going to come from people who know what they're doing.

Hell, with Elegy a lot of mobs become so retarded easy to tank a WHM/NIN could do it (assuming they had the enmity to hold the attention).

you don't need RNGs for Odin. Done it plenty wth hardly any RNGs or SMNs and just used a bunch of melee. As long as you have proper healing, you can melee him down crazy fast.

    <- this

off course a mix up of different jobs helps, but that various from situation to situation, there is no perfect alliance setup for everything.

No, his response was just a response. Nothing useful came out of it. If you read the OP, it was clearly stated that 14 of the theoretical 18 were people new to the game. People new to the game obviously aren't going to know what they're doing the first time.

What first made me think of this situation is all the reading of BG about how easy and predictable this game can be. I then thought it would be neat for SE to create a BC that had any number of random enemies in it, but you'd never know until you got in there. Maybe it's a Chigoe, maybe it's a Wyrm, maybe it's a Crab, who cares. The point is that you'd have to go in and not be prepared for a specific enemy, and that's what made me think of the OP. So, you'd go in with a setup that's likely to win anything, whether it's a Chigoe NM, Crab NM, or Wyrm NM. This is what I want this alliance to be; a group that can win anything with little or minimal changes.

Throw a bunch of people who have never even heard of FFXI in the driver's seat of a Ninurtia's Sash-sporting, Apocalypse-wielding, Aegis-tanking, Gjallarhorn-singing super-alliance, and put them against Fafnir; they're probably going to wipe the first time around.

The point is, there are very few key elements to making a fight extremely easy. Beyond those, most of which I've already summarized for you, its simply a matter of understanding what to do.

Get a Paladin, a Red Mage, a Bard, and fifteen random jobs, and you can most of the things in this game with extreme ease.

So you want us to tell you what jobs you should use in your alliance for every event in the game? Are you all a bunch of unexperienced noobs who need other people to tell them how to play the game? Seriously wut.
