We talked about this at work, and we just don't see it actually becoming legal for the "tax" reasons.

Its too easy for a individual to grow, with the correct knowledge (internet) and equipment (money). Compared to making your own beer.....so the idea of taxing the product wouldn't be worthwhile because you cannot tax something that a individual grows.

There's also the possibility of lacing it other narcotics (mostly Class B or E) which can lead to death.

I'm from California and I'm pretty well trained to hate motherfuckers who smoke where there's clear 'do not fucking smoke here' signs posted all over the place.

Pretty sure I'd have the exact same attitude to potheads. Doesn't help your case for marijuana being 'non addictive' when you display the same behavior as tobacco addicts.

This. As long as you aren't blowing it in my face or weaving down the street, I don't care.

(Well, until the HA setup a grow up next door)

They did that here in Alberta for awhile where anything under an oz was just a warning of "Don't do that again." + /slap on the wrist.

Personally, it doesn't bother me if people smoke it in public. Hell, concerts wouldn't be the same without it. Though I did laugh a few years ago when I saw Santana live for the first time. Of course as soon as the lights go out and he starts playing, the joints start lighting up like crazy all around the arena. Some lady beside me was beyond outraged and was like "Can you believe people are smoking weed in here?! They can't do that!" and got up all pissy and left the show. He hadn't even played for 45 seconds and she was leaving. wtf?

    a) It's a concert. Concert + Weed = a guarantee.
    b) It's fucking Santana. Of course it's gonna be hippie central.

That would be like going to Woodstock and saying "OMG people are naked. I'm leaving." Hmmm, seems to me Santana was there too. Wow, what a bad influence he is.

Why? The smell is relatively unobtrusive, and it's not going to make you cough, give you headaches, and so on, so forth. Have you ever been to a music concert or at someone's house when they've smoked it? Granted, dank can have a quite strong smell, but not normally as much when it's coming out of someone's mouth.

Coincidentally, I cannot smoke marijuana -- I attempted to take it for legitimate medical reasons, specifically a debilitating back injury -- because I'm allergic to it. I attempted to ingest it, smoke it, and so on, so forth, and it was eventually determined that my body cannot handle it.

Even so, I can be around secondhand smoke and not be bothered. That's fairly common when you live near the beach in Los Angeles county.

If weed becomes legal it's gonna be taxed and distributed by companies purely for profit. Fuck. That. Shit.

That's really not a legitimate issue, though.

It depends on how much a person smokes, obviously. But, for the most part, especially given how completely clueless people are about plants, an extremely small part of the population would be able to successfully supply their own.

Basically, to put it as simply as I can: Pot is, in fact, a weed. That means it's an extremely hardy plant, and damn near anybody can get it to grow and produce flowers.

However, getting it to grow thickly, and healthy, and produce big, unfertilized flowers is way, way, way beyond most people.

When the police ask you for ID when writing you the citation, tell them to fuck themselves. They cant force you to give ID for civil infractions apparently.

Uh, I dunno where you're from, but around here (Kansas) you can get in shit for refusing to show a cop ID under like any circumstances whatsoever, even if no crime is involved.

It's extremely easy to make homemade alcohol. Everything you need can be bought legally by a 12 year old with a week's allowance at any grocery store. It might not taste great if you're not skilled, and distilling is a bit more complicated, but still...

People buy alcohol and tobacco because it's a lot easier and somewhat cheaper than making your own. Mass production drives the price down and the convenience up. Sure, some people would grow marijuana and not pay taxes, but if it was mass produced, you can bet the vast majority would buy that and save their time and money.

    umm... no

If a officer asks you to produce ID during a investigation, and you simply say "No" it can be a arrestable offense "refusal to comply to a police investigation"

Now if you say.... "I don't have one" can work... but you better come up with a good social security number and birthday to go along with a fake name. Otherwise, if you screw one of those up said officer will arrest you for falsely identifying yourself to police.

home brewing kits are on the rise and pretty affordable to start out (like 100 bucks will get you started; a local company in town is doing very well with this sort of thing). not to mention moonshine, etc.

growing pot would take some minimal effort + some time. it's super easy and cheap to grow your own cooking herbs and lettuce and shit, but most people still buy it.

best thing i've heard from a fellow officer....

"Fuck, if a kid has 4 ounces of weed on him...and wrote on the package its 1 oz, then its 1 oz to me."

For police officers, we cannot legally scale/measure any type of narcotic..... only the state drug lab can do that.

So some people might get arrested for having over a ounce, when in fact they have under a ounce..... and some people might be let off, when they had over a ounce.

    This is gonna be fun

    Regarding people growing it...

A friend of mine (and a smoker) wrote his final paper for Public Policy Formation on the legalization of marijuana, and it was pretty solid. One of the points he made was that in order to prevent lacing or rampant growing, people who want to grow their weed have to have a permit. More tax dollars in selling permits (likely annual), plus tax the sale of it in stores similar to tobacco.

Hell, salvia is legal in some states, and that's way more hallucinogenic than pot is. Alcohol's way more addictive and harmful too. Honestly I don't see a point to continue banning weed. Keep in mind that the country was in a similar economic state when Prohibition was repealed...

Grow up with a condition that puts you in the hospital on days where the polution gets even remotely bad and come back and tell me how 'unobtrusive' any kind of smoke is. I've benefitted directly and immensely thanks to the smoking ban and I'm not going to take 'chill man, it's only weed' as an excuse to ignore those benefits.

Also, "unobtrusive" is about the last way I'd describe a smoke that's much thicker than cigarette and smells quite strongly, and very, very much like a skunk.

You apparently live in an area where there aren't many skunks.

Good pot really, really, really smells like a skunk. Like, to the point where I actually enjoy the smell of a skunk now...
