you can the see weed vs booze argument at any party
watch the group of kids smoking pot-they sit on the couch, watch tv, eat too many oreos and maybe fall asleep;they are certainly quieter-smoking pot makes you introverted(which is my only complaint about it really; you may still not stfu but people definatly start to spend too much time thinking and less speaking)
then go watch the drunk kids
    significantly louder/moar obnoxious
    messier
breaking stupid shit in the house
    fighting
people who hate each other are having sex
    people throwing up
theres always the one girl crying with the makeup running down her cheeks
    etc

both can be used responsibly and both can be abused; but alcohol is withoutadoubt more negative with its effects on people

smoking weed can make you lazy; but most don't fit that stoner flick stereotype (as was stated before); personally i get really high and get excited to go do stuff like make music

btw music sounds pretty awesome high

You haven't heard music until you've listened to it while high. I remember being one of those people who ONLY listened to rap, but smoking weed not only made listening to rap more enjoyable, it opened me up to genre's that I normally would have never given a try.

Playing music works here too. In high school I was the bass player in a shitty little garage band, but when we'd get stoned and jam it was like everything we played was gold.

Then we'd listen to the tape later and be confused, but still. Awesome.

You're none the wiser, although you could be if you'd stop insisting that every smoker smells like a skunk and would open your eyes to reality.
The smell is tolerable to you, even easy to miss, I get it. Not everyone's sense of smell is the same, with or without medical conditions. You can even get the ones that mask themselves so heavily in cologne or perfume that you get some hybrid stench that's even worse.

And while it may not carry any traditionally known addictive properties like nicotine in cigarettes, I question the claim if they're smoking daily, talking about smoking in public, and traipsing about like it was some kind of underground religion trying to convert others to the bong. They're addicted, as you put it, to the euphoria. While a natural reaction of the body to the contaminant, the pursuit of that experience or what they're neglecting while experiencing it is where problems arise. Perhaps I see the behavior more living in a rural area where there's very little to do for recreation and doubly so with money being tight in today's economy, but I still see it.

I'll agree prison crowding is an issue, and fining on the spot and search/seizure is probably better if the guy's not all bloodshot in the eyes and possibly a threat to himself or others. I'd say $100 is a bit low, though. $250 minimum, or in the absence of the ability to pay, monitored community service and possible counseling to address the public disregard and irresponsible use. Skip on those, though, then your ass can sit in the slammer. Plenty of chances not to be an idiot along that chain of events.

We're not talking about collecting stamps, here. You're ingesting a foreign substance for the sake of a chemically induced high. It's a gray area leaning toward the physical with an obvious, medically documented catalyst.

No, I find that I can quite easily smell weed on someone who smoked it in an enclosed area without ventilation. If you don't remember my mentioning it, I'm allergic to the substance. However, not every person who smokes reeks of cigarettes, either. It isn't difficult for someone to smoke a joint in a well-ventilated room, get washed up and ready for the day (which includes a change of clothes, if not their first set), and head out. You aren't going to smell anything then, don't be ridiculous. You're not Superman.

The type of people you're referring to are chronic smokers who obviously have other issues, including a lack of personal hygiene. That's not marijuana's fault.

This is another silly statement, as I live in Los Angeles. Do you really think less people smoke here than they do in a rural area? Honestly?

You're still going on about marijuana smokers being a threat to society? I almost wonder if it was even worthwhile for me to type everything I did. Since you no longer have a concrete argument, you're trying your damnest to stick to the "points" you were arguing before, but you have absolutely no way to back them up. I've challenged every one of your beliefs and all you're doing is repeating them, or elaborating with opinion rather than anything based in fact.

If you insist on believing something is evil when it isn't, at least admit that your belief has no foundation in reality. You've even stated that you're not for the legalization and later noted that you believe these things should be regulated, thus that is why you don't want them to be legal. Legal does not equal unregulated, just to let you know.

Caffiene would fall under that description. Should we ban that? Funny thing is, ingest too much caffiene at one time and you can have major health issues. Cue the girl who had like so many triple shot starbucks cappucinos that she wound up in the hospital.

The argument is a moot point really. There is so much humans ingest in daily life, both modern and historically, that you can argue 'does not belong' as it doesn't provide a nutritional benefit. Hell, modern medicine very much easily falls under this category. Painkillers in themselves give the user a chemical high by altering the body chemistry to either block or prevent the creation of chemicals that create a pain sensation. Weed/alcohol both modify what the brain receives, and/or how it receives it. Not in the same sense of what they modify, but the idea is the same.

Also, trying to say a mental addiction is bad is a very very bad area to go into. Mental addictions occur because something is fun or pleasurable. Weed is just as much a mental addiction as playing video games, or hanging out with your buddies, or reading a book. I'm addicted to the euphoria of beating a game. I'm addicted to the euphoria of getting involved in an amazing storyline either through text or graphics. I must need serious help, all these damned addictions.

What's so wrong with enjoying oneself? lol

edit: I would like to point out that nowhere in there did I mention myself + weed. I haven't smoked in months due to money/time/sports.

As I implied with alcohol, I'd rather the shit not exist. Of course, I'm a heartless bastard because some guy somewhere needs it for his glaucoma. However, all my wishing in the world won't make the shit disappear, so in it's place I'd be a lot more comfortable with strict regulation solely for medicinal purposes in non-smokeable pill forms, while maintaining the penalties upon unneeded recreational use with respect to the current state of our prison system. No, I will never support the ability to walk into a 7-11 and buy a carton of doobies. I know it'd be convenient with the twinkies and nachos right there, but sorry.

As for being threats, it's subjective. I think we can agree a pot smoker shouldn't be operating heavy machinery or driving, as reaction times can be slowed and vulnerability to distraction can be higher. The rest falls into matters of responsibility, ranging from something as trivial to not feeding the fish, to forgetting to pick up a relative from the airport, thus prompting a 3 hour drive from another family member because you can't get ahold of the other. Do these happen without pot? Yes. Does it increase the possibility with pot present? Past experience has taught me yes, with emphasis. I'd rather not multiply these statistics as for now they're primarily annoyances and not full-blown tragedies aside from drug deals gone bad, etc..

Anyway, I'm sure more people smoke in LA. I'd just counter there's a lot more to do there along with things to distract you from noticing, such as some hot chick in a mini-skirt strolling down the sidewalk. We get fat chicks in flannel on four-wheelers.

Again, irresponsibility is only the fault of the person. Irresponsible people will be irresponsible whether they are inebriated or not, be it through alcohol or marijuana.

Legislation on people doing dumb shit while under the influence of anything is perfectly fine. Legislation on the influence is utterly retarded.

    @arus

have you ever smoked pot for real

no one smokes to the point of retardedness that you'd forget something like having to pick up a family member at the airport
as someone who smokes too much and will attest that it makes your short term memory fail you randomly-you forget stupid shit like wanting to buy an extra stack of bloody bolts before getting a retrace and doing campaign; something thats actually important in your life you're not going to forget about

Coincidentally, one of my friends is that person. He has a medical card, and if he couldn't smoke marijuana, there is a very strong chance that he'd be blind today. If not that, he would be in severe pain due to the terrible headaches he'd face while trying to deal with life.

Additionally, medical marijuana is frequently prescribed to cancer patients and other terminally ill people, and it is one of the only things -- if not the only thing -- in existence that can decrease their pain and encourage their appetite.

Considering that many easily obtained pharmaceutical products have far more terrible consequences, may leave permanent damage behind, are more easily obtained and usually aren't nearly as effective, I have to say that you're right, you are a heartless bastard.

You're willfully ignorant, you'd rather ignore the facts, you'd rather not realize that marijuana is one of the most harmless substances when used recreationally and is in fact immensely useful for medical purposes. Your stance is why many people, not only casual users but terminally ill people, are being jailed.

    Congratulations, you're a fucker.

No, I will never support the ability to walk into a 7-11 and buy a carton of doobies. I know it'd be convenient with the twinkies and nachos right there, but sorry.
You really are a moron. I apologize for trying to argue with you intelligently. As aforementioned, because something is legal doesn't mean it's going to be available in a liquor store for easy purchase. Currently, many of the laws being proposed in states allow either legal medicinal use only, or highly restricted personal use that does not equate being able to buy it in a convenience store.

If you were honest when you said that I made you think earlier, why are you arguing as if you're debating with an idiot? Maybe it's because all of your arguments are only on that level and no higher.

Normally I wouldn't want to get down to where I'm slinging insults at someone, as ordinarily that's when they like to close the door on a battle and consider it won, but you've already insulted my intelligence with asinine arguments. I'd say the first punch was already thrown, therefore.
