After reading more, i think this only really got enough attention because there's a lot of anti US sentiments flying around in Russia right now, and it makes an excellent tool for Russian nationalism. I do think things are going to get pretty bad during 2009 and people will be very disappointed with Obama, but a collapse in 2010 of the US is just something i've never heard of from my political science professors. I guess we'll see.

Supposedly there are several sources that say it will, and not just the Mayans; just that the mayans hold the most evidence I guess you can call it and have the strongest say in the matter (EVEN THOUGH THEY DISAPPEARED OMG)

100% correct, if the US were to collapse, the current global financial crisis will seem like an economic boom by comparison. This is why I lol'd at China and Russia becoming the financial caretakers, shifts like that won't happen in 24 months, and I sincerely doubt an economy that is as precarious and dependent on non-renewable energy and ecological devastation as China can be counted on to become a financial "caretaker"
