The problem with our economy is a very real one. Creditors know that we already aren't spending money because we can't afford to and yet they still have retailers trying to get people to sign up for Credit Cards every day. I do it at Sears and still ask people if they want one simply because it's my job to do so.

It's a horrible idea to continue to push credit cards knowing that they're the reason we're in this situation... yet for every 1 or 2 responsible consumers there are probably 10 to 15 that shouldn't have a card at all.

There's a difference between a problem we're exasperating and a problem that someone else is instigating.

Just to clear the air, the Maya Calendar is roughly 5,125 years long and ends in December of 2012. At that point, the Calendar starts over. These 5,125 year periods mark 1/5th of the Precession of the Equinoxes, or Platonic Year. The Platonic Year is basically the time it takes for the earths axis to make one full rotation...the best way to put it is if you spin a top, you notice that the axis of the top wobbles in its own circular path. It takes a little over 26,000 Years for this to happen. This means that Polaris which is our North Star right now, won't always be the North Star. Different stars over periods of time actually become the North Star including Vega in the constellation Lyra.

What makes this a big deal astronomically on this date though is that the ecliptic (The path where the Sun moon and planets follow in the sky) will intersect with the plane of the Milky Way in such a way that the suns path will come directly in alignment with the center of the milky way galaxy, in other words, the center of the galaxy, the sun, and the earth will be in perfect alignment.
