Pokemon Games

So i've been out of the loop for a while on these games, butI recently downloaded the first seasoin of the show and it made me want to play them again. The last one i've played was Gold on GBC. Has it changed a whole lot since then? If I were to pick up a DS and say diamond or pearl, would I be completely lost? Is it even worth it or should I just wait til they make an emulator and rom for the DS? And for the love of god, can you catch a wild charmander yet?

The games have changed considerable as far as pokemon and stuff, but the over all layout is the same. Also pokemon are male/female you can breed and shit too.

You still can't catch wild starters of any generation. You can breed them though, so you can get as many as you want as long as you have one. It's pretty much the same shit again but with more cool stuff.

2nd gen: dark + steel, special attack/defense split
3rd gen: traits/characteristic
4th gen: special/physical attack type split

And starters aren't catchable still in the wild afaik

No. Has to be imported from Leaf Green/Fire Red.

Has it changed a whole lot? I can't speak for the new one (Platinum I think?) but basically just another slew of new pokemans. D/P did one good thing and change the way damage is calculated but having physical/special attack damage based on att/special att of pokemon. D/P is sorta short, the game has a very slowed down feeling to it, especially with surfing. The legendary pokemon are on a whole pretty useful for competitive play if you care about that sort of thing.

Platinum I only know a few things about. I know they sped up the game a bit and added some new forms for certain pokemon to become.

On a whole, it's the same ol thing, just more pokemon to hunt down. I enjoyed it more for the competitive play but gave up on it. You can do the whole competitive play part online for free without having to go through the whole game and care about raising them, breeding, EV training, etc.

If you get the proper emulator on your phone I don't see why not. It will most likely require you to jailbreak your phone to get the emulator applications, but I would assume a Game Boy App is out there somewhere.

Ignore the rehash series and play Mystery Dungeon 2. It actually has a plot (a surprisingly decent one at that) and gameplay that isn't slow as fuck like D/P did. Just be prepared to baww like a little bitch at the ending.

If you hate dungeon crawlers you probably wont like it (the gameplay that is), I enjoyed it even though it's a little on the easy side (but hey, so is the other Pokémon games until you get to the Elite Four really).
