    I think it's like 30 bucks. I like them a lot.

There are also wireless headphones. Basically portable stereo-ear muffs.
I use these as well and can vouch for the greatness(this was in my pre-grado days). I pretty much use these for when I'm out & about and the grados and higher end senns for when I'm at home I've seen some prestige series sr80 on amazon for $95 with free shipping, brand new(awesome deal I just might buy 1 or 2).

Used to be a user of Grado SR-80s. Were a fantastic set of entry level cans and way better than everything else at that price but I lost them ;_;. Bought myself a pair of 325is to replace that should be in the mail soon :D! Now I have to get an amp though ;/

I recommend AKG Stereophones myself. If you get a full size studio set of phones, be sure to get an amp. You'll jizz all over yourself.

Have any amp recommendations? I asked around at Head-Fi but nobody would give me a straight answer.

I use Sony MDR-NC60 headphones and they're great. Has a decent noise cancelling feature you can use and it isn't required to be on to listen to music like some other headphones. They're a little bulky though so that is something to consider.

I used to think Skullcandy were the shit too but then I put on some grados(sr 325) and the senns(hd 555 i think?) and just laughed at skullcandy(i gave them away in the end).
This is the correct answer if you are an audiophile. Grado's and Sennheisers are the best headphones for not too much money. Other brands that get close to their sound get really expensive.

A store near here was going out of business and a got the Hesh one for 20 bucks, that'll do for now. But I will keep the other recommendations in mind if I ever decide to become a true audiophile. Thanks for the help.

    NO. BAD.

You will go deaf using these. Active noise cancellation works by inverting the waveform of the sound around you and pumping it back into your ears. The result is a null wave - no audible noise, but the pressure is assaulting your ears at roughly 1.5x the level of the actual environment around you, on top of your music volume. On any method of public transportation (which runs about 60dB naturally), this means you're looking at about 100-120dB of total pressure hitting your ears - this is only sustainable for about 72 minutes before permanent damage is done to your inner ear, less if the average is above 110.

Passive noise cancellation is much better, in that it only serves to block outside noise via physical obstruction of some sort, and allow you to hear your music naturally. Not only does this mean your music is generally clearer (most active noise filters tend to cause a 'muddy' effect on your music, even if only slightly), but you can listen for much longer periods with zero risk, both from the music and your environment.

Plus, I guarantee that virtually any Sennheiser product above $50 will produce similar quality results in all but the most extreme hi-fidelity circumstances (and unless your music is recorded in 44.1 kHz dual-stereophonic WAV, you're not really in much of a 'hi-fidelity' environment to begin with).

I use the Etymotic Research ER-6i for music listening on the go; they are earbuds and it takes a little getting used to how they fit, but literally nothing comes close when you need something portable but high quality. Circumaural headphones will provide better quality due to larger drivers, but aren't nearly as portable, and depending on cost won't block out as much sound as these do; and on the flipside I've never found a pair of earbuds that come close to the crisp quality these put out.

For gaming I use Everglide S-500s, one because of the extremely long cable length, two because it's one of few pairs I've found that actually has a decent padding across the headband, and three they were on sale via woot . Plus few gaming efforts are very high fidelity, and extended bass range will generally serve you better in a gaming environment to begin with, as it makes it easier to pick up details and depth of field is usually better defined.

PS: Skullcandy is overpriced garbage that only looks pretty.

PPS: I apologize if my initial reaction is a bit of a freakout, but you probably would too if you saw what too much noise does to your ears D:
