sorry I like to see ixion hit me for 9 damage
lol
You could do that with any subjob. An appropriate Phalanx II is going to be more powerful than a Paladin's. I don't necessarily feel that the cost outweighs the benefits in most situations, but /RDM is for enmity, not for mitigation.
my point was that I like to use /rdm to use my aegis to block damage rather than being a shielded ninja, its better hate and just plain fun, especially watching arabs and gooks in rival lses try it and wipe
We just use PLD/NIN x2 with SCH RDM BRD support. Gives you the best of both worlds and a better Phalanx than a RDM can provide.
I've tanked it as PLD/RDM, in a non-ideal setup and it wasn't that "fun" to me. Even thinking about it doesn't seem all that fun to me.
IMO, while you're gonna keep Ixion's attention most of the time, there are always gonna be set backs to tanking this mob. For example when it decides to stampede off and run people down, or turn and face some random direction to Lightning Spear and kill a couple of people caught flat-footed. I guess what I'm saying is that even if you tank it balls-to-the-wall, deaths are going to happen most of the time and Ixion is gonna move around on you a lot--two things that annoy the piss out of tanks.
It's certainly NOT nonsense. If you enjoy tanking /rdm, that's one thing. But I believe your question was if it was the most effective/efficient our not. And it is certainly not the most EFFICIENT way to tank, especially for ixion.
If you think it's fun, then that's one "benefit". But it certainly isn't the best way.
WOW, omg pld/rdm can beat ixion also?! So can pld/drk, so can pld/war, so can nin/drk, so can nin/war, so can nin/rdm, so can war/nin with enough support, so can rdm/nin, and probably a sam can do it as well. That doesn't mean it's the most efficient way to do it -.-
PLD/RDM does not have ANY benefits except for a few extra mdb. Phalanx is weaker compared to phalanx II, fast cast is moot because the spells you cast have short recast already and you are not worrying about shadow recasts, and Stoneskin is impossible to cast during the fight. SO... wtf is the benefit of /rdm? a few more spells you can spam while losing all the enmity from getting clobbered.
FUN? It's fun to be inefficient and MP drain? If you have an aegis, it doesn't make you automagically invincible. It's only 50% blockrate on ixion, maybe less. Not incredible. You will still be able to hold hate better /nin mitigating tons of damage while keeping up hate by self cure III/IV between shadows and flash/ja's.
There is NO benefit /rdm for ixion PERIOD. You actually won't keep hate better unless you suck to begin with. And, getting hit with 9 damage from ixion is from Aegis, not from /rdm.
Once again, just because Phalanx II CAN block more damage than Pld's Phalanx doesn't mean it will, Phalanx II is based purely on merits and tiers of 25 Enhancing skill, unless you have 3 merits in Phalanx II and over 300 Enhancing magic skill your Phalanx II is pretty much worthless to a Pld. Also, I'd hardly say that a commonly accepted sub is useless, stop running around picking fights and bitching that not everyone is playing the game YOUR way Kandiekane. Seriously, watching you invade every thread about pld and then bitch and moan until the thread is derailed or it is locked is getting old. As to whether or not being inefficient is fun, I wouldn't know because /rdm is still an efficient job, and if I can be efficient and play the game a different way for fun, I probably will.
I'd doubt your phalanx II would be completely useless. Your fail phalanx 1 doesn't compare to the damage mitigation of 6 shadows every 30 sec. If your rdm's are so gimp that they didn't merit phalanx II, ask your sch's to phalanxga you.
If you don't have any proper support, then you probably won't do any good as pld/rdm as they require way more support than pld/nin.
STFU if you don't know what you're talking about plz. . . How is pld/rdm an efficient job? Please elaborate.
If /rdm is so efficient, why do ninja's /drk instead of /rdm?
Ninja has no base mp pool and has no natural Enhancing magic skill... sounds like a case of...
