It's a living metaphor describing the Wii, aye. The fact that minority hardcore fans aren't being served can only be ignored until the majority stops caring.

The US may consist of a bunch of states with lower populations that did sing his praises, but I believe that amongst our millions, there were far more people who realized that Palin was a fucking idiot, and McCain was a lot better in his political career years ago.

However, let's not turn this into a thread about politics, we have plenty of those.

I remember the good ol' days of reading PSM magazine, until they turned to shit. Seems this is just going to keep happening.

Someone posted about a year ago a website where you could sign up to get a free subscription to EGM. I've been enjoying it for the amount of time it lasted. I think my subscription ended in December so I don't think I'll be able to see the last issue without buying or torrenting.

What happened to Hsu and Chan by the way?

Although Hsu was indeed working for 1UP, he's been doing plenty of things on the side. I met up with him at the last E3, and my fellows and I asked him what he's been doing with himself. Aside from the published work you see, he does a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff too. If I remember correctly, he's trying to start his own company as an advisor on game development and similar stuff. He's fine, and he's not going to bow out of journalism anytime soon, don't worry.

I used to read Nintendo Power until they stopped being hard bound and had ads. Thats when they turned to crap.

I think he was referring to the Hsu and Chan Tanaka, the comic-strip game devs that were in the back of every EGM for the past few years.

Another piece of my early vidiot years is gone. While I stopped reading EGM religiously years ago, I still managed to buy maybe 4 issues a year if they had some good rpg articles. Many good memories though....

And yay for those remembering Gamefan. Man, that truly was the best magazine of the olden days (especially with all the awesome JRPG coverage)

Reading that comic pretty much became the biggest reason I subscribed to EGM up until they moved it to the back of the magazine and cut off Hsu's hand(how I don't know).

I also preferred EGM to gameinformer back when I actually read game magazines because the layout was a lot easier to follow and the articles didn't sound retarded.

Kind of sad to see it go... but not really.

Been a subscriber since about issue 40 something, except for the last couple years when i found out you could just type in free egm subscription on google and get it for free from one of many promos. Magazines kinda outdated with the internet and all but sometimes they did get some good interviews and its nice to read a hard copy instead of just online all the time.

Still had 2 years left of EGM from promos, wonder whats going to happen with our subscriptions

The comic was the best part of EGM. I remember subscribing to it back when each issue was around 300 pages. I stopped subscribing a few years back when I just felt the quality wasn't there anymore. Anyone else miss the fuck out of GMR magazine? I know it was essentially EGM2(remember that too?) but I liked it more than EGM.

GMR wasn't too bad. I'd have to read it again, but I'm rather sure I enjoyed it more than Game Informer.

Aside from the aforementioned Gamefan, HGM, and PLAY, I also enjoyed the short-lived GameGO!, and the longer-lived GamePlayers/Ultra GamePlayers. Loved the sense of humor in the latter.

I stopped reading Game Informer when they gave Enter the Matrix an 8.5 because "it's kind of cool right now since we're all so excited about the Matrix sequels!" They more or less admit the game is shit but try to find a way to justify giving a story they gave a cover to an 8.5.
    Seriously, what the fuck.

EGM never seemed to do that shit. I disagree a lot but I never felt like that happened.

Game Informer definitely does that garbage a lot. Sometimes, you get the feeling that they're dissing a game specifically to be "different," or because GameStop doesn't care whether it sells well or not. Then there's the opposite, as seen in the "Enter the Matrix" example you provided. They never make you feel like, "hey, I can agree with them -- I can trust these guys."
