Also, I've had two people close to me or my family beat drug addiction, and Ive lost one friend to an overdose. Seeing them go through various stages of withdrawl etc is not easy. You cant imagine what they go through.

Also Mel, its not like people mean to get addicted to stuff. They try it once, say hey its good, then they do it again and it becomes a vicious and horrible cycle that re writes your fucking body chemistry. So kindly, get the fuck out.

A crack pipe and prescription pills were found in DJ AM's New York City apartment, the Associated Press reports.

A law enforcement official, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing, did not release any other information about the medication.



Last year, the star -- who was found dead Friday at the age of 36 -- revealed that he became addicted to drugs and had attempted suicide in his early 20s. He said he attended recovery meetings and has remained drug-free for about a decade.

"He was sober for 10 years, a friend told Us. "His sobriety was really important to him."

He even began working on a new intervention-style reality show based on his experiences surviving addiction as well as surviving a tragic plane crash nearly a year ago that left four others dead.

"I have another chance," he had said during a July interview for the MTV show, Gone Too Far. "So I have to do something better with my life this time."



There was no evidence of foul play, and it has not yet been confirmed if DJ AM had drugs in his system when he died. The medical examiner's office in New York City has completed the autopsy of DJ AM, according to TMZ.com, but toxicology tests -- which could take several weeks to complete -- are needed to determine the cause of death.

"[His] death is an incredible loss to the music community, his friends, family and his fans, and to those of us who had the privilege of working with him," an MTV spokesperson said in a statement late Friday. "MTV was honored to support him as he helped young people battle their own addiction."

One of the greatest people to have ever lived, Dr. Norman Borlaug, died a few days ago.

A titan died this weekend, and, thanks to the fact that he had a local connection, the local media provided unexpectedly comprehensive coverage of his passing. His name was Norman Borlaug, and if you haven't heard his name before, you're not alone. He was, after all, a scientist, and a rather modest one at that, working in the fields of plant pathology and genetics, which he studied at the University of Minnesota, and both fields are a bit obscure to mainstream America.

But Borlaug, as the Associated Press tells us, may have saved as many as 1 billion people from starvation. He was a man with an unquenchable desire to help other people, and Rochelle Olson and Sharon Schmickle of the Star Tribune sum this up with one remarkable quote: During Borlaug's waning days, his daughter asked him if he needed anything. His response: "Africa. Africa. I have not finished my mission in Africa."

The AP also provides a nice summation of Borlaug's Nobel Prize-winning work: Borlaug was responsible for the so-called "Green Revolution," an introduction of high-yield crop varieties, along with other agricultural innovations, into starving countries. "Thanks to the green revolution," the AP tells us, "world food production more than doubled between 1960 and 1990. In Pakistan and India, two of the nations that benefited most from the new crop varieties, grain yields more than quadrupled over the period." It's not every day the world produces a person responsible for preserving so many lives, and that person's passing deserves mention.

Swayze must have been at peace. He knew he was terminal and didn't have a positive outlook. It's a shame. My girlfriend and I were just talking about this the other day and why he hadn't died yet.

Guess we know why. Good thing they cancelled his show (although maybe it had something to do with it, it was getting good ratings).
