The saddest thing is, this kind of egomaniacal dorkery is plenty common in the coding community. I'm sure those here who have worked on coding games are aware of that. It's almost as if it's necessary for every single community or corporation to have at least one socially inept, arrogant asshole in their ranks. More than that just earns them bonus points.

It'd be foolish to think this is unique to software developers. I think every field has it's crazies who think they're god's gift to the field. I don't think the field in general has more or less, you probably just notice it more because a lot tend to be able to brag under the shroud of internet anonymity which makes everybody a little less considerate of their pride.

It's common in every industry, but I'd think that goes without saying. As you explained however, coders are much more noticeable because they rank amongst the interweb literate, and they tend to be noisy.
