The saddest thing is, this kind of egomaniacal dorkery is plenty common in the coding community. I'm sure those here who have worked on coding games are aware of that. It's almost as if it's necessary for every single community or corporation to have at least one socially inept, arrogant asshole in their ranks. More than that just earns them bonus points.

Sounds good in theory but I reckon this is the reason for so many mediocre games. I agree that a good task/project manager is the key to a great game though.

I'd love to agree with you, but from my own experience in game development, I'd have to argue that a lot of the supreme cocks are just as bad as Bob. You have to think of the directors, and how they'll shoot some developers' work down no matter how good it seemingly is -- how the marketing department will force the removal of certain elements, how the licensor (if applicable) will do the same...

Then there's also the fact that all of these separately created elements have to mesh properly, and if someone goes off too far in their own direction, that'll cause problems when it's time to culminate their work.

Some egotism is necessary, but too much results in projects getting delayed excessively, parts being scrapped and redone and not necessarily for the better, going way over budget until the hype is dead, and then releasing something nobody cares about anymore...

That's not always the case, but it is often enough. I agree with Miyamoto -- "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever" -- but when you're delaying a mediocre game because your staff is full of self-absorbed dicks...

That's what I think about a staff full of assholes. Everyone is so into their own work that they forget the purpose of the overall task.

Some egotism is needed for anything you do, if just so you don't feel like shit about your work and end up redoing it over and over again because it's not good enough. Bob has tunnel vision, the kind of thing that looks amazing at first, but on reflection isn't as good as you thought. Tunnel vision for 5 years though is a pretty hard thing to get over, especially if you're egotistic.

Anyways, I've been reading some blogs and some people really feel for this guy for some reason and then say NINTENDO IS SO HEARTLESS HE SHOULD GO TO XNA BECASE MS ISNT HEARTLERSS. Now, they fail to understand that he probably would have been able to publish it just fine on WiiWare. He could have published it on countless digital distribution channels. This is the kind of thing they were made for, but no, this retard wanted to publish on the DS. He wouldn't take it anywhere else. He didn't want to pay his dues and work from the bottom up. He wanted his game on DS and he wanted it now. There is clearly a lot he isn't telling us because he's simply not self-aware enough to actually know how he screwed up. I really just don't feel sorry for this guy. There's a way he could have broken in but he fucking didn't.
