STFU and go to the spam forum. Nah, it's to help them "recover" and give them a chance to study. Where I work (a community college), there are loads and chix w/ babies who are trying to transfer and get a career. I know quite a few and it has worked for them, but yeah I might sound like a dick, but they're like damage goods.

First and only student I recall getting pregnant while enrolled in school was in high school. Weird, I know. Have yet to see one in college as of yet. She showed up during the fall to finalize some stuff before dropping out ... was kind of depressing to see since she was in summer school as well in one of the other periods and she was a sophomore.

Edit: fuck my spelling atm :\

Well in college, female students would be old enough to get their own birth control without parental consent? Or can they do that before then? I don't have a vagina, so I wouldn't know how that works.

There's more to life than having and raising kids before 18th birthday. That's so messed up, where are the parents? and how hard is it to wrap up your tool, condoms cost virtually nothing.

Wish people would understand the financial and mental burden before wanting to not use one or just having sex with people they aren't too sure they can trust for life :\. Maybe I think some people just can't be helped /endrant

I only know of one chick who got pregnant from my high school class, was in her senior year too. Then again, we didn't have abstinence-only shit. Pretty sure the school actually cheated on that and received federal funding, but taught normal sex ed/contraceptive use anyway.

My school taught contraceptive use, and no one in my class got or made anyone pregnant after the AIDS talk. They were told you can still get it even with proper contraceptive use

Indeed. All I hear about now is how so-and-so that I went to school with only a few years ago has had a kid. It's pretty amazing how stupid people can be.

Best part is that the people who reproduce at young ages are more often than not the people who should never spawn because they're all fucking retards.

My cousin did the Teen Pregnancy thing. His girlfriend was 6 months in, blatantly pregnant since you could see the belly rounding and he just thought she was getting fat.
Not the smartest tool in the shed that one.

I think when you're 18 you can get BC without parental consent, so most college students can get it.

Also, when I was in High school they had a day care for the kid's babies.

Yea, and handing out condoms to teens condones under-age sex.
It's called a solution to a problem, you can't just have the bastards go uneducated when the parents sure as Hell can't afford it.

I do agree, however, that it's insanely hypocritical to both teach kids abstinence while giving them a safety net for every seed they crap out, and then condemn the practice of having a shit load of sex with a condom, but that didn't start with programs like this. Do you know how many orphans and foundlings there were 50-100+ years ago? Back then, as long as nobody found out, you could be the biggest whore in 3 states and it wouldn't be a problem as long as you ACTED like an untouched flower. Meanwhile, every bean that made it to the end of the hallways would be thrown somewhere outside of your whore territory, and even though you're a whore, you did the 'moral' thing by having it, rather than aborting it or having the sense not to get seeded in the first place. If they really cared about making sure kids didn't have kids, people'd make sure every option was readily available instead of just 'taking care of it' when all is said and done. That's not prevention, that's Damage Control. Giving support for teenage parents who need it no more condones underage parenting than AA condones drinking, it's just a means to cope with it. However, if prophylactics weren't so despised, there'd be a lot less to cope with.

Incidentally, I find that most people who look down on teenage mothers are the same people who voted against passing out condoms in schools.

1: Ok, we went over it, the title is misleading and whoever wrote the article with that didn't proofread or something.

2: As far as BC pills go, over 18 you can get them yourselves, go to a planned parenthood or a clinic with a similar mission and you can get them for FREE until you are 21. My gf and I did that and just before she turned 21 they gave us like 6 months worth. Very nice, understanding, want to help. Shit, the planned parenthood I went to was IN A HIGH SCHOOL in a town next to my college.

3:About the whole condoms condoning sex, LD pretty much took the words out my mouth. That is retarded.

In addition, i would love to see more contraceptives available. Free or highly discounted pills, rings, maybe even IUDs.

Is there a link somewhere to the statistics broken down? The states mentioned have several things in common (high minority population, higher rate of poverty, more apt to listen to county music, etc). Might be worth it to find out what the common cause is. I see abstinence only sex ed being thrown out there, but in order to get federal funds many 'blue' states use it even if the overall mentality of the population doesn't support it. I also know personally schools that use 'real' sex ed right here in Louisiana where abstinence only would be the mindset of the culture. If nothing else the current administration will most likely move away from the mandatory abstinence only policy to receive funding.

Just curious to see a full list of states, etc.

Oh, please. Girls like Spears and Palin are idiots and not doing any good for spreading responsible sexual decisions, I'll agree, but don't bring pop culture into this. With the exception of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, nothing glorifies teenage pregnancy. If you actually watched Juno then you'd know that's not the point at all.

I think you might have misunderstood me. I did mean that schools are federally funded to teach abstinence only, and then to have a daycare center for the kids is pretty hypocritical. Free condoms/pills sounds like a great idea to me, with the anti-contraceptive technology we have today, I don't see why we should still have the big social stigma about underage sex, its a biological imperative, and with condoms and BC pills, we've pretty much eliminated most of the negatives associated with it, save for the STDs that can still be transmitted despite protection. I look down on teenage mothers as being stupid because they didn't spring for a fucking condom, but I do know at least one person who got shafted by the pill and landed in that .01% who get pregnant even with the pill, and I don't think she was stupid in any way. It sucks she'll probably be labeled as irresponsible for it, but it really wasn't her fault, and I don't mark her for it. On the other hand, I do know dumb whore who got knocked up last year, her senior year. I don't call her a dumb whore because she had the kid, I call her a dumb whore because she doesn't know dick about shit, and has sex with anything with a penis. And in a few cases, things without. She said she wouldn't use condoms because 'if God wanted her to get pregnant, she'd get pregnant condom or no'. She is probably one of the few women I'd be able to bust in the teeth and have no second thought about it. I think if we'd stop making underage sex so fucking taboo, kids would be more likely to go and practice safer sex.

It's improbable for senators to get behind this policy. It means political suicide for them to suggest a bill that provides free condoms/pills because a lot of parents will accuse any advocates and supporters of the bill of moral decay in the form of facilitating and encouraging teenage sex. It is not, but that's why they will see it as.

They can call it moral decay all they want, I see it as moral evolution. Morals exist for a reason. Don't steal, kill, etc. but like I said, the negatives from underage sex would be gone with that sort of legislation, and the need for those sort of morals is gone.
