Sorry, we fucked up on the letter. By the way, your son's still dead.- Army apologizes, but says original intent of letters shouldn't be overlooked
Why is this a story? Did the letters go to the wrong addresses? They make a big deal over saying "Dear John Doe"?
7000 people? How many people die in the military, holy fuck.
People are also stupid and naive.
They weren't letters notifying the families of a death.
Some 7,000 letters were sent in late December to notify families of services or gifts surviving family members can receive from nonprofit organizations that help families of fallen soldiers, according to an Army statement Wednesday.
That's what I was wondering. iCasualties: Iraq Coalition Casualty Count says that 4223 Americans have died in Iraq since 2003, so I'm guessing the letters addressed deaths that may have occurred a while ago. Unless we're losing a ton more troops somewhere besides Iraq.
Has the army been reading Catch22?
