My strategy with private trackers is that to pick out the most popular torrents and leave them on upload for weeks to boost up my ratio. It's really win-win.

that was actually my plan when I first got in oink. Downloaded Era Vulgaris and barely got anything =(
oh and leaks from hipster bands usually give great results. And if you find a torrent that's flac only, you can try looking up how to flac -> v0 and upload that

Tip for the people new to What to get them started: search for the album "Your World On Fire" by In Fear And Faith. Download the V0 and seed it forever (even if you never listen to it). The album just came out on the 6th, the V0 on the 7th, so people will be snatching it a good bit. The band isn't popular enough to be oversaturated with seeders yet popular enough to generate enough ratio for you to download a good bit without getting in trouble. Obviously this is just one example, but try to find more and they start to add up real quick.

Yea, I found out the hard way a few months ago when I downloaded classical music in .flac. Any recommendation on decent .flac media players?

That's what I did a couple years ago. Everything I could get in V0 I did. If couldn't find it in V0, V2 was next best choice (scene releases in this bitrate), and if no V2 I'd get 320, then 192 (usually never got to this point). Overall quality of the file itself increases, as well as the average file size going down to a pure 320 collection (bitrate wasted on sections where it's not needed).

I have been doing something similar with my DVD collection and downloading all the 1080 bluray version that I can find. Do you think 320 is worth the size increase or should I just stick with v0?

Is the difference between V0, V2 etc etc just quality of sound? I had no fucking clue what that stuff meant so I just went for the MP3 stuff.
