Downloading MP3s

I have been doing something similar with my DVD collection and downloading all the 1080 bluray version that I can find. Do you think 320 is worth the size increase or should I just stick with v0?

v0 definitely, I only get 320's when there's only 192 or flac left

Yeah, if I remember right.. differences between v0 and 320 is basically.. during silent parts of songs, the v0 will drop the quality down, while the 320kbps quality versions will keep it at 320, even when nothing is happening, so it's better to go with v0 for both quality and size.

Bands don't even get a good cut of most of that shit unless you buy the CD at a show and it's made by the band. I buy shirts of bands I like and if they don't have shirts I just support them by going to their shows and making friends go.

Does the same thing but is handled on server end so you dont have to download any program, just put in the URL and it'll do everything for you then you get to save.

Many people host mp3s on their websites, some college students on their personal web space offered by college, you can learn how to search for these and download mp3s that way with google.

Bands don't even get a good cut of most of that shit unless you buy the CD at a show and it's made by the band. I buy shirts of bands I like and if they don't have shirts I just support them by going to their shows and making friends go.

Exactly what I do. My t-shirt collection is now in the 30-40s and I still buy albums directly from the label's site (think you're supporting the artists by buying from Best Buy? wrong) for the smaller-time bands.

I downloaded 600mb in like an hour last night and my ratio is completely shot. I am gonna donate to get myself into the clear because it won't be possible to keep a reasonable share ratio at the rate I am re-downloading my entire library.

So what the fuck is up with seeding on What.CD? I know you guys said it was hard, but.. I left on like 12 torrents last night for seeding and only ONE seemed to get anything. And it was only 20.5MBs.. lol. I'm glad I get that 1 week grace period for being a new member, but wtf.~

Might be because I downloaded MP3-onry stuff and only got that V0 album Epical said to seed because it just came out (which is the one that only got 20.5MBs uploaded in 8 hours.. >_>).

Unless you're also going to concerts/buying memorabilia and shit, the artists really aren't getting 'support' from you. The record label has already paid the artist for the album, most music sales go back to the label.

That said I still buy the CDs of the artists I really like too, but not before I've downloaded the album and given it a solid listening to.

Edit: As for the comcast thing with torrents mentioned earlier, yeah the FCC kicked Comcast's ass for blocking traffic by type, so instead they've got monthly bandwidth caps in place (250gb for most people), and a heuristic QoS that will lower the priority of your traffic for 15 minutes (this will effectively slow your entire network to a crawl) if you maintain 70% of your maximum throughput for too long.

Hm, I thought I was doing the right thing by buying from iTunes, so basically I'm just feeding more money to Apple or the record label.. Kind of annoying too since sometimes you can't buy a certain song unless you buy the entire album..bleh. I prefer showing my support by concerts anyway. Most of the artists I buy albums from are independent, and I buy directly from their websites, unless they don't offer that. Usually, they're either not on any label or are on a local label, so I know they're getting most of the money.

So do what/waffles have massive music selections? Or are they better more for high quality songs and prereleases? I've been using isohunt, mininova, and thepiratebay so far for all my music downloads but most lesser known bands are impossible to find on them.
