    Good payed-for Anti-Virus

Well my subscription to Norton is coming to an end and I'm probably going to change my subscription to another anti-virus because of all the negative feedback I've gotten. I know that there are various good (and effective) anti-virus programs out there, such as: AVG, Avast, etc. I am entitled to one free subscription yearly (Payed by someone else) so I might aswell get one if it's any better than the free versions.

I was thinking buying AVG's Anti-virus and seeing how good it is.

    Please, any suggestions are welcomed.

P.S I was going to post this in the Tech forum, but I feel that you don't have to be a tech expert to have experience with an anti-virus program. Plus more people browse the General section >_>

    ESET NOD32

    Anti-virus + smart security (firewall and real time port monitoring), ESET NOD32 Antivirus & Smart Security 3.0.684.0 AiO + FiXMyESET3Now! [M3TAL_L0RD] : Software > Windows - Security - Mininova

    Anti-virus only, NOD32 Antivirus 3 0 642(with unlimited update fix) : Software > Windows - Security - Mininova

I recommend you only install the anti-virus to save yourself from configuring the smart security setting because by default, it filters and scans all inbound traffic and could drastically slow your torrent download to 1/5 of the speed.

Avast is very good too, but the company that releases it consistently blacklists all pirated version of the software. I have reinstalled multiple downloads during a 4 months period after each of them expired, and have given up.

What torrent client do you use and what's the setting? Do you have your windows firewall up?

I know how to configure to the ESET smart security, but it's a hassle since you have to tell the program which program it should filter. I can walk you through it should you decide to install it.

Using NOD32 myself. Used Kaspersky for a bit but it was TOO protective. That damn program can lock down a system like no one's business.

Get Kaspersky (i use this) or EST NOD32. both are top of the line and best anti-virus out there. comes down to preference really. I believe you can test both for 30 days. i know you can with kaspersky

uTorrent, I can get it to run like 800kb/s on my Xp Pc, with the same settings that only get my 80kb/s on my Vista.

Although I've been hearing latley I should switch to Bitlord for Demonoid (I have no Idea why)

I'd recommend Avast. It works well against most things. I find the real time protection to be annoying when I'm cracking things, but oh well. Can testify that it doesnt slow down torrenting too much, I've gone as high as 1Mbps.

If you have your firewall up, it will filter and scan a high percentage (could be 100%) of the inbound traffic, effectively capping your torrent download rate to the max capacity at which the firewall is able to filter. My download rate declined and a lot of time torrents wouldn't start for 10-15 minutes as opposed to the usual 5mins that I normally experience. I thought it was comcast since I was reading about how they were throttling users bandwidth to discourage torrent file sharing. I eventually found out and had to manually configure the setting to exclude utorrent (also firefox, since ff is pretty secure in itself with extensions) from the list of programs that I wish to be monitored in real-time.
