Being an asian, it took me forever to be able to open my eyes and keep them open long enough without my finger/contact touching my eyelid, causing it to blink. When I went to the doctor's office, he kept telling me to open my eyes wider, and I told him "They're open as big as they can be!", frankly, we had been there for about an hour before I got them in, then of course I had to take them out -.-. Like eveyone else is saying though, wake up earlier to put them in, if it just won't go in, just wear glasses and try again later, eventually it'll be real easy!

If you have soft lenses and they're irritating your eyes, they may be flipped inside-out. That is a bad thing. <_<

Could be this, but it could also be that if he attempted to put them on many times, they either dried out a bit or accumulated dirt/debris (or an eyelash - those irritate like crazy when they stick to your contacts). He should check to see if they're inside out, rinse them with a saline solution for contacts (or with his contact solution if he doesn't use the kind I use), and put eye drops on them.

The most comfortable contact solution is the hydrogen peroxide system, in my opinion. It's this stuff you put in a little cylinder case that goes through a reaction that turns the peroxide into saline while cleaning your contacts. The only drawback is that you absolutely cannot put your contacts on until the system is 100% done, or else the peroxide will sting like crazy. It only takes 6 hours to clean and I sleep for 8, so that's not an issue for me (and if I get up in the middle of the night for any reason, I have glasses).

They were definitely right-side out, I checked very thoroughly each and every single time I put them on. I didn't really clean them as well as I could have though, so there was probably some little hair or fiber or something on them. Or it could just be that they're new - I noticed after a while that they stopped irritating me, although they do give me a headache, but that's more of a prescription issue since Target Optical sucks the big one (they knew I had astigmatism but told me "oh it probably won't matter," even though the last time I got contacts years ago they were very firm that I needed a special contact lens for my left eye).

I'll have to check on that hydrogen peroxide system, I sleep eight hours every night too, it should work fine for me. Although the thought of getting a little hydrogen peroxide in the eye is scary as hell lol.

I have astigmatism in my left eye too. I've recently been given a new lens to use which makes things easier to see without the shadowing. Not sure how it works, but they're weighted on one side so they stay in the eye a certain way.

put contact on pointer finger, pull down on center of bottom eyelid with middle finger, look up so you don't blink, stick the sucker in then re-center your vision.

5 sec, works every time. had em for... 20+ years now? it DOES take a good amount of practice though man, it's not just you.

Yeah I'm getting better and that is pretty close to the method I use. It will be a while before I can do it on the first try with any kind of frequency, but at least it doesn't take me 45 minutes per eye anymore

A lot of people have said that they have to put drops in, or wet the lens before putting them in. Do you guys do things differently over there or something, cos over here, I take the lenses out of their solution in the morning and they're ready to put in...

It's because putting a drop of solution in the center indention of the contact creates a suction effect when it touches your eye. It's way different from just having the contact normally "wet" [from being in the solution] & it's a great learning tool until your eye's aren't nearly as sensitive to be touched.

astigmatism contacts suck & don't feel nearly as comfortable as none stig contact lenses. I wear em also... and while they don't bother me anymore... it took my eyes a few days to a week of wearing em until i stopped getting slightly irritated (and this is coming from years of wearing non-stig contacts)

I've got torics (was most pissed off when he told me I had wonky shaped eyeballs) and they drive me nuts sometimes. Can't lie on the sofa watching telly as they gradually spin around being weighted on one side so things gradually go blurry over time.

I'm about to get new contacts again after 4 years of glasses. loooooooooool this is gonna fucking suck. Hard contacts ftl.

Edit : Also, laser eye surgery.. I think you aren't supposed to get it until you're 26 or something. No clue why.. but I've got another 4 years to go. ;o; I want it now though.

The reasoning I've heard on the laser eye surgery is that it's a one-time deal, and once you get it you can't get it again - so if your eyes are still getting worse, it's not a good idea to get it, and most people's eyes don't really stop degrading until the mid-20's or so.

Although, I'm 26, and my prescription hasn't changed in years, I should look into that. Maybe next year, I (stupidly) decided against a Flexible Health Spending Account this year, and it's not covered by my eye insurance of course. Why would they cover something that will preclude them from ever making any money off of me again. *eyeroll*
