Excalibur Add Effect is Slashing Damage

This might not warrant its own thread and Wafik already mentioned this in another thread, but I thought a small number of people might be interested. Also, I'm going to use this as a basis for Banish/Fenian Ring testing so I figured it best to first establish that the Excal Add Effect does count as slashing damage.

I'd assume most who obtain Excalibur figure out within a few days that the additional effect is not magic damage. I guess I always just took it for granted that it would be light-based magic damage without really thinking about it. I'm sure many w/ Excal also realize that it is slashing damage but I couldn't find it posted anywhere.

It became obvious very quickly to me that the add effect is not magic damage (slimes taking reduced damage, dynamis PLD mobs taking NO add effect damage during Invincible, etc). The specific damage type became clear while doing Apollyon SE.

Every add effect proc was for 0 damage on these crabs on two separate runs. (Even if the crab had Metallic Body up, which it didn't, the Bubble Curtain seen in the SS would not have caused the add effect to hit for 0 if it were magic damage. I saw many procs on different crabs, all for 0. I just don't have another SS, sorry.) Anyone who knows Apollyon SE knows that they're immune to slashing damage, indicating the add effect's damage type. The add effect proc'd for the full 1/4 HP on the weapons on the top floor which are immune to magic damage. floor(961HP/4)=240 as seen in SS below.

It was Wafik's idea to test the add effect on hounds in Eldieme, which take +12.5% damage from slashing. I ran out there quickly w/ 952 HP. 1/4th of that is 238, so 238 would be the base add effect. If the add effect is actually slashing damage we'd expect to see a bonus 12.5% damage on the hounds so: floor(238 * 1.125) = 267

Just for completion's sake I tested against ghosts (25% slashing penalty) and bombs (slashing neutral) in Eldieme as well, though it already seems pretty convincing that it's slashing damage. For ghosts we'd expect floor(238 * .75) = 178, and on bombs we'd expect the base 238 damage.

Yeah so it's slashing. Some of you are probably thinking "no $#!+, it's a slashing weapon..." but I don't know of any other damage add effect in the game that isn't magic damage. (Are there any other physical damage add effects?)

I'd say overall this detracts from Excal a bit since it would be nice to be able to damage mobs that are melee resistant, but it's great in a fight like Proto-Omega to hack away at those magic resistant forms.

Gotta admit, leveling Pld and seeing a tarucalibur makes me want one.

Good to know about that, btw.... and awesomely funny shot of Wafik in the first SS.

Souleater added damage is also the damage type of the weapon, but I suppose it doesn't show up as an additional effect.

But since the SE mechanic is unique in the way it works I don't think that matters since it seems to be a static amount based on HP.
