Melee Bard

I didn't get any responses in the randomer question thread, and I thought this was more advanced anyway.

Every Bard will probably agree with me when I say our job can get boring sometimes. We easily keep up 4 songs at a time, support heal, and still manage to grab a cup of coffee without anyone noticing we're gone. So, how feasible is it for a Bard to contribute damage during their downtime, in an endgame situation, but not against uber strong bosses?

I've done some basic testing on sacrificing Apollo's and Terra's Staves, and I was able to land Lullaby and Elegy fairly easily without them. So in most situations I think you could do this without ever swapping weapons and losing TP.

Does this have enough Accuracy? Are there any other reasonable alternatives? Considering you would probably still be required as a support job, and thus be subbing White Mage, would it be better to use Healer's Shield? Once you've built up the TP, would you use Evisceration or Mordant Rime?

Simple answer: Sushi for food TP in Haste Gear. Supplement your accuracy with some ACC equipment if your still missing. Also run before Isladar sends you to his chamber of anguish.

I like to do something like this if I'm lucky enough to have another brd pulling at birds, it's pretty fun. Not sure how it would do in endgame, but I imagine it could work pretty well on smaller stuff, like dynamis or limbus.

The 2 DEX on Healer's Shield seems better than anything else in that slot, and a 2nd acc ring is probably better than Rajas for TP (though I use Rajas myself). I also use relic body, though Avalon sounds good. Goliard is another option for folks with only Swift Belt.

But really, in most situations I'm either pulling or bouncing between parties and don't have time to melee. I occasionally do BRD/NIN DD in two-BRD colibri parties and once did Temenos West with WHM DDBRD THF, but mostly the only time I melee on BRD is on Bhaflau Remnants nq reinforcements and in Campaign.

I make my Piggie-BRD melee with his earth staff. Just because it's fucking adorable to watch him lift his foot up for the swing.

A) I thought you received a number of responses in the Randomer question thread

B) That gear is obviously good, do you have it? If not, I hope you have another reason to buy some of those pieces than melee BRD; mine is 95% overlap gear from WAR/THF/RNG.

I've gone full-out DD a handful of times, and BRD can really put up some decent numbers on G. Colibri and other winged friends. Works out well in dual-BRD parties if the other BRD is willing to pull; the advent of Pianissimo makes meleeing much easier because you can just ping the RDM from the bird you're fighting.

Sub /Nin, offhand Joyeuse, wear Suppanomimi for TP, Brutal fulltime, some other earring for Evis, and idk, maybe Delta for Mordant?

Well I wouldn't want to be throwing away my /whm cures... and I can't get Suppanomimi since I have every job that needs Abyssal Earring. I've built up 3 years worth of points in sea, so Love Torque is easy for me to get. Velocious Belt and Cuchulain's Mantle I want for my Blue Mage already anyway. Byakko's Haidate would be the hardest thing to get, since I don't do sky anymore, but it would also be good for my Ninja.

melee brd is alot of fun. with a mix of kirin set, af2 relic, af1 +1, dusk, and hecat armor you can be pretty good (at least for kicks!). if your stuck in the melee pty in a dynam or campaigning its great fun to pass the time.

with dusk gloves, boots, wala turban, swift belt, byak haidate, thats near full haste. plus marches and whatever other song you want.
brutal and suppo, raja and blood ring. genbu shield is nice for campaign if you dont want /nin.
kraken club(lol), joytoy, a number of daggers includding blau.

our af2 is designed for melee, especially the body^^
hecat boots, hands, genbu head, kirin osode or af2 body, and choral cannions+1 are a ton of vit/str/dex/agi.
add in warwolf belt and amemet+1 for kicks if you have it.

basically, if you wanna fill your inventory for a little extra fun it can be worth it. but dont try this in merits or anything =/
