Caps at -25% for gear yes? And can anyone confirm 100% whether or not "Damage taken -%" and "Magic damage taken -%" stack together or if the game like looks at magic damage -%, then damage taken -%.

Are you talking about my entire post or just the damage -%/magic damage -% thing? I asked my linkshell and they seem to think magic reduction caps at -25%, just seemed a bit odd since phys reduction caps at -50%.
Here is the info on that...
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Damage#Magic_Damage
Seems that they are bother 50% even though it isn't directly stated. There are two types of damage: Physical and Magical.
The percentage values listed on these items are only partially correct. The formula to determine the exact damage reduction is:
[(Percentage listed on item * 256) Rounded down] / 256
Example: Earth/Terra's Staff is listed as -20% physical damage taken.
20% * 256 = 51.2
51.2 rounded down is 51
51/256 = 0.19921875
Actual reduction = 19.921875%
Damage reduction caps out at 128/256 (50%).
Physical Damage
Physical Damage is defined as damage dealt to you from a physical source, such as a monster stabbing you with a knife. Other sources could include damage from area attacks, usually Jumping attacks, or attacks which involve monsters smashing their bodies into you. Overall physical damage is resisted/reduced by one's Defense and Vitality.
Magic Damage
Magical damage is defined as damage dealt to you from a magical source, such as a monster casting Stonega IV on you. Other sources could include damage from area attacks, usually grenade blasts or other explosive abilities, or attacks which deal Damage Over Time. Overall magic damage is resisted/reduced by one's Magic Defense and Mind.
They both cap at 50%, but Shell is under the same cap, and Shellra V gives Magic Damage Taken -24~27%. So the most equipment you need for capped Magic Damage Reduction is approximately 25%, assuming you have a proper White Mage support.
If you only have Shell IV, I believe its 21%, so you need 29% in equipment.
If your at an event where you WHM needs to use a corresponding barspell you could get away with 20/10 % in gear. Blessed Briault adds + 5 MDB if macro's in. And 5/5 Barspell merits adds +10 MDB.
Now the +10 MDB from 5/5 Bar spells only works on the corresponding element. example: Fire Spells with Barfira up. so it's limited. But it's there.
Not sure if the +5 from Blessed Briault is anytime, or just during the corresponding element like the MDB from bar spell merits.
It's Magic Damage Taken.Originally Posted by Classikmage
MDB inherently affects MDT. The more MDB you have the less magic damage you receive. Not sure where I read it. But I did see somewhere that MDB =/= MDT.
If you have a link to more info on this I'd like to read it myself. Because if they are completely seperate your looking at a hell of a lot of magic damage reduction.
Magic Defense Bonus is included in the enemy's spell damage calculation, something along the lines of Enemy Magic Attack / Your Magic Defense.
Magic Damage Taken is just a straight up % taken off that result.
Shell is MDT. The in-game description is misleading.
Magic damage: base*(100-MDT)/(100+MDB)
Shell is a straight magic damage reduction. It functions as a -% taken, it is not magic defense bonus.
Does magic defense bonus factor in here?
lets say I was to get to the 50% cap with shell+gear, would magic defense bonus then continue to push my magic mitigation past 50% just not in a -% fashion?
Also what would the cap be of a enhancing magic capped RDM selfcasting shell IV?
"Magic Damage Reduction" (MDR/MDT) and "Magic Defense Bonus" (MDB) are different.
Shell is MDR/MDT
Bareffect is MDB
"Damage Reduction" applies to both MDR and PDR
"Physical Damage Reduction" (PDR) applies to Physical Damage only.
Enhancing skill affects the duration of Shell and Protect, not it's effectiveness.
So if Magic Damage Taken caps at -50%; is there a cap on Magic Defense Bonus or does the the damage reduction gained from MDB factor towards the 50% cap?
