X-2's battle system was the only thing that saved it from make me hate it completly. If it is based of it, then I'll be happy as it was one of my favorite battle systems.

Yes, that's a very good thing. X-2 probably has the best turn based battle system in the series. This sounds sort of like a mix between it and XII, which I can only envision as awesome.

FFX-2 has one of the best battle-systems of the numbered series. Everyone likes to hate on the girl-powered theme of the of the sequel but it's battle-system really is top notch. Personally it baffles me because games with garbage story-lines yet awesome gameplay can prevail, a la Star Ocean 4, yet FFX-2 was held to such a ridiculous standard it was dismissed altogether.

FFXII was decent, but it wasn't anything to exactly write home about

I'm certainly more excited for this than I was XII. The battle system sounds like it's going to be fun (like it's been said before, say what you will about X-2, but leave the battle system out of it). I can only imagine the crazy ways they could expand on the system later on.

I just pray to god the story is good.
