Depends on whether the enemies are programmed to match your level, ala FF8.

Those changes will be an awesome upgrade from the demo. I was trying to figure out how to control other characters and what not while playing the demo. You could pretty much press circle the entire demo and win.. though it's fun trying to see what combos and what not.

Gotta say though, if the real game is like the demo graphically.. fucking amazing. Now to play it again.. :D

I liked that aspect of FF8, made it so you couldn't power lv through fights such as Ultima... because the higher lv you were the harder they were

Between playing triple triad and drawing for hours on end, I would rather draw. Though back when I played FF8 I sucked at triple triad, I suppose it would be easier now. But I doubt the game will be any less frustrating with the bullshit, arbitrary rules that get imposed later on in the game.

It's easy to get rules added/removed if you understand the system.

Yeah, the region thing, back then I didn't care enough to learn the system properly. I still played long enough to get the hero cards etc, but I really hated it. Like I said if I played it now it might be easier/different, but it still doesn't change that I hated the game and found it annoying.

Triple Triad was so addicting, had to be one of the best side-games any rpg had imo. Was always surprised SE decided to bring back FF9's card game instead of FF8's alongside FFXI.

I agree. I always thought it should've just been something implemented into XI and not on the side if possible. Good way to kill time and easy to play.

I much preferred 9's card game. Was so much less bullshit involved it was easiest to just play on the side for fun. Only problem was they removed the usefulness of being able to transform cards into items and spells, so there was really no point to playing the card game other than something to kill time on the side.

I must have played at least 30h with the card game in FF8, FF9, Xeno1. I don't know why, they are always so useless, but addicting.

I remember owning with Flares in FF9, that card game was fun but I have to admit I definitely didn't know much about it when I played it in like 6th grade. I bet Flare's weren't even that good I just remember it had a star for a stat or something and that was good.

The one I was spamming is the little blue ship you get from Gilgamesh. It had high stats everywhere, was leveling up fast and was always winning for some reason, even when the odd were against it.

Aaaaand there's the reason I hated FF9's card game.
There was no way to tell when your card would actually win! Sometimes it would lose when the odds were greatly in your favor.

I don't like randomness in card-games. Especially when your opponent can take your card when you lose.

It wasn't randomness, it was pretty constant between card type. I think there was another "rock paper scisor" rule that went like vehicule > magic > weapon > beast or something like this. I could never figure it out, completely, but when you're always using the same card, you usually end up knowing which one are going to rape you and which one is going to rape you or not.

Try this if you still have FF9.
Download an emulator and place a card and make a save state, let the computer try to take the card.

Keep loading the save and notice different outcomes... it's random.

FF9's game was just level grinding and randomness, no strategy or skill involved.
