I'm honestly not too picky about voice acting. Out of the trailer, the only one whose voice I don't like at all is Oerba. The others are good enough for me.

Is FF for you then? Most of them are praised in being some of the best back stories. Gameplay is sorta a given in any FF(i liked 12 even)

Then again I know what you will say. On topic, the VA was decent I am from New york tho maybe that has something to do with it? haha Could be.

You could skip all the cutscenes in FF12, no reason you shouldn't be able to in FF13. It is a nice feature for replaying.

If the game even has any replay value. As much as I love FF games, I rarely replay them as there's usually no need to. FF definitely needs more in the end/postgame department. Anyway, the VA isn't bad at all, I watched it waiting for the horrible noises and awkward silences, but it didn't really come. The game will be fine.

After listening to the English and Japanese version, I found that it was just the entire set up that was lame rather than the voice acting. I'll admit that the Japanese voicing was better with the exception of the black guy (Sounds like he has the voice of a sumo), Lightning, and the "main" bad guy (The one talking to snow). I didn't pay much attention to the English one to distinguish who was bad and who was good though. However, the main point I would like to stress is that the script, song, and setting seemed off in both videos. Though the one part I found to be very good was when Snow came out in bandages and confronted the soldiers.

Edit: This post was for whatever page talked about this subject.

The Final Fantasy series no longer excites me anymore. FFXIII is looking to be flashy as hell but looks like it might be lacking substance along with the terrible fucking voice acting. The last good FF game besides XI I played was 10 and as much bad rep as 10 gets most of the time, it was bloody fantastic. The battle system in 10 was great and kept true to the series quiet well. I did not play XII and do not regret it at all. I really don't know what Square is doing but I really am not liking it. But I digress, I hope I am proven wrong and this ends up being a great game but I'm not holding my breathe.

The only thing I hate about FFXIII is the character design. They all look like freaking pop idols, and I have trouble to connect with that kind of characters. The rest look great.

FFXII was a great game imo. It's kinda weird to say you don't regret missing it, when you did not play the game.

Ugh, this post is so dumb. You say "last good FF game" as if their games are no longer good, yet you like 2 of the last 3 FF games and haven't played the third. The only bad thing about the game we've seen so far is the voice acting, which is entirely down to peoples opinions, lots of people seem to think the VA is fine. Bad VA's would not be surprising in the least regardless. 12 had decent VA's, but 10's was awful. As is the voice acting in 99% of games.

What? Who? I guess it depends on your definition of "pop idol", but at a (massive) stretch I guess you mean Lightning, Vanille and perhaps Hope? If that's the case I dunno how the hell you're a fan of the FF series, when the majority of the cast in every FF game look like "pop idols".

Gonna have to agree with Kia on the note about pop-idols and what not. Name a Final Fantasy that hasn't had that sort of character, or heck.. an entire cast full of them. It's just the way things are now. And how can you have trouble connecting with characters you haven't fully explored yet? Last I checked, watching a ton of trailers doesn't mean you can understand the actual characters in the game. That's like walking down the street, seeing someone in messed up clothes, calling them names and judging them, and then moving on. Simply stupid. D:

Because I dislike character design, I must hate the game? Come on, I'm not that dense. I don't know what make you think it's the only factor that determine my enjoyment for a story, but disliking one aspect doesnt make me unable to appreciate the rest.

Also, it's more than the one you mentioned. Most of them look like they spend 3 hours every morning in front of the mirror to dress up. It's annoying. I'm not watching a teen movie, I'm watching a story about people who're struggling for their life in a harsh environment.

Also, when you say "majority", you probably mean 2 games out of 13. Could say 3 if you push it and include a few characters from FF12.

No, which is why I also quoted P3, P4 an Heavy Rain, all of which use several american actors. You're missing the point.

FFXII had really good VAing, but to be fair you are trying to compare the dialogue & narrative of an entire game to a few sound byte clips thrown together for a trailer. I think it's safe to say that the trailer in question does not represent the final product in quality.
I don't see how that can possibly be the case. The graphics might get last-minute changes, bugs and artifacts can be fixed, but they're not going to recast their voice actors this close to release. They might re-record it with slightly different dialog, but that doesn't really make much difference if the actors aren't any good. The problem isn't the lip-syncing or the dialog (although some of the lines are cheesy, most of it isn't that bad - even if the writing isn't anywhere near as good as XII's), it's the bad acting. For a glaring, obvious example of this, stop looking at the trailer and just listen to it, then try to imagine whether that sounds anything like the way an good actor would say those lines in a quality movie - you'll immediately be able to notice it just sounds wrong.

    FF1-3, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF9, FF11, most character from FF12,
FFadventure. FF mystic quest. FF crystal chronicle.

    Seriously?

First of all, don't pretend the first impression doesn't do anything, because that's bullshit. Secondly, I never said I couldn't connect with FF13's cast, it was a general statement based on previous experience. Thirdly, "having trouble" doesn't mean I can't do it. If they are good, it won't be an issue, but if they are average or subpar, it's dangerous.

I like what I've seen in the video so far (particularly the scene were Lightning punch Snow, while he stand still). I'm sure I will enjoy it, but I also know I will never like the character design.

Last minute changes aren't likely to happen for most things, least of all graphics - at least the type of graphics people care about. GUI/Menus etc etc are the most likely to get changed, but textures/models aren't likely at all. Voices won't be changed either, but chances are they can be re-recorded.

You hold FFXII on such a high pedastle, but I couldn't imagine those voices working for a big movie either. You say the writing isn't as good when you've been exposed to such a tiny sample compared to a completed game, that isn't sensible at all.

The problem here is people are critisizing way the voice acting so harshly when we've only been exposed to such a small part. Is this the best people can complain about? Are "sub-par" voices going to keep you from enjoying the game? If it is, then there might not be a lot you enjoy. All games have awkward moments when it comes to dialogue and voice acting, even FFXII, P3, P4 and so on.

That's only partially true. People are criticizing the voice acting not only based on this small sample, but the entire track record of Japanese-to-English dubbing in all the imported games, anime, and what have you.

Is it that unreasonable that people would react this way, especially when even a hand selected small sample can be this bad? Especially considering these can be key scenes in the game story.

Sub par voice acting may not keep me from enjoying the game entirely, but it certainly will affect it in a considerably negative way. People have a right to be disappointed when a game of this magnitude, all things considered including hyping it on SE's part, doesn't meet past standards.

The only thing that I had a problem with is that the voices seemed a bit...jarring? But I'm confident this will be fixed in the release since I'm almost 100% certain that these were just the straight audio-recordings of the actors. There's a lot more work to be done after the VA's have left the building such as sound control and blending. So I think the reason the voices are standing out so much right now is because there is no blending with the background noise and there wasn't really any depth to the voices, which is mainly because the trailer was slapped together really quick it seems.
