I think this is getting bent out of shape. One guy doesn't like FFXIII and posts about it on a forum. Business as usual, but I suppose if there's nothing else to talk about...
edit: way too much gay porn in that metaphor.

How else were I supposed to implement "suck" in a creative way?![]()
Alright, I'm trying to fight Neo-chu (the mission that gives you double CP)... and I kept losing to it (that AOE move is overpowered even if I switch to Great Wall!)
From what I've read there are 3 strategies:
1. Fight it straight on and hope the AOE and the pets don't kill you
2. Hope for Lucky Breaker
3. Hope for Death to hit
I'm not having much luck... any help prz? ;o
You're still misunderstanding me. I'm not telling you how to play the game, I'm gauging where your perspective comes from and I suspect it's from a rather narrow experience descended from unrealistic expectations of the franchise.
The broader point is that there have been maybe 3-4 FF games out of the old franchise (none of which came out after VI) where the core game, without doing anything optional, presented much challenge to the player. So when I object to the 'dead easy' remark it's probably due to it being from the perspective of someone who walls themselves off from the real challenges a game has to offer. Kinda like calling any post-SNES action game dead easy, when you've never ventured past the default difficulty.
Yes, the game is not Vagrant Story, or Final Fantasy Tactics hard, but that there are no serious gatekeeper bosses that stand in front of you and the next objective with a big "you must have grinded this hard to see the next cutscene" sign in front of it is a trend seen in many games of this console generation; Singling out 13 as standing apart from that doesn't really form a strong argument about whether or not the game sucks, even in comparison to whatever FF game you happen to personally enjoy. It's a JRPG from Square. I get the impression you were expecting the second coming of christ, never mind that you've already played 9, 10, 11 and 12. This is not a series known for putting players in front of a branching storyline, real exploration and high levels of difficulty.
Has nothing to do with the genre... I'm really not trying to be insulting here, but you're being dense.
Do you really not understand how someone can think a genre is trashy and still like it?
Let me clarify in bold capitalized font for you I have repeatedly now claimed that I LIKE RPGS, I ENJOY PLAYING THEM People who watch soap operas and read harlequin romance novels seriously don't claim them to be high-art, they accept that they're trashy, and then continue to enjoy them. That does not mean they're incredibly biased against such things, infact it makes them objective about them, because they can show clear compartmentalization.
AGAIN that is a fabricated dismissive argument, obviously because I don't like 13 I must hate all RPGs, the fact that I consider it a trashy genre is irrelevant, because I obviously LIKE a lot of other RPGs...or...get this...I wouldn't play them.
tl;dr get it in your skull that this has absolutely nothing to do with me hating the RPG genre, cause I don't. I'm just honest with myself and the reality of the genre, unlike you.
I guess I could be clearer, but I'm a completionist when it comes to RPGs, that means I do all the extras bosses and content. In that context I still find combat in 13 mindnumbingly easy, the only way to die in this game is to be 1shotted, that is the only way. I said it was dismissive because you automatically assume I hadn't done those things, because in your mind, had I done them, I would of been challenged, and thus couldn't of done them, since I was not.Originally Posted by Correction

I never made the claim that FF games have some long tradition of being challenging...but compared to the entire franchise *this is the easiest one yet*, is that clear enough a statement?
People are seriously trying to tear everything I said apart in order to back-up their view that this will be the next coming, because obviously I must be wrong, I couldn't possibly have thought it was legitimately bad...I must be insert XYZ.
/sigh, people...I think I'll stop there, I'm not in the business of defending the RPG genre(though if someone wants to pay me, I'll reconsider), I simply wanted to post my opinion after having finally completed the game, the fact that it's a mostly negative one is because I have a mostly negative view of the game, because it was bad. Not because I'm a hater/retard/jew/whatever.
IGN has a new video detailing some of the game mechanics.. probably nothing new but I haven't been following the game much so it was new to me <_<

I wanted this stupid argument to end, but it's actually getting funny now.

I agree, the whole contradiction line is rather self-defeating. Even if they were right, all they did was prove that they're as retarded as me. Or I could educate them on dissertation and the difference between a comment and an argument, but unfortunately both paths lead to a pretty unfulfilling conclusion.
i hate contradiction lines, i prefer contradiction branches. or at least the illusion of it.
Here are my opinions of the matter (I finished the story but I'm still playing through the missions):
About how linear it is, I can say that the first half of the game is very bad at this... I was quite turned off by it but I wasn't about to stop playing. It's not about the story being linear (JRPGs are all like that), but the gameplay itself was one huge tunnel for all of the first half of the game.
I'm fine with the 2nd half of the game, however.
About how hard the game is, I don't think the game was too easy at all. I actually died quite often (most of the time it was because of carelessness), and FFX and prior I die maybe a few times the whole game. One caveat though, maybe 90% of the fights are a breeze to go through (especially with the fight system being very automatic). I do wish that you can just hold X and it will auto select the default option. Right now I find myself rapidly pressing X 99% of the time in any fights.
As for the story, I have no complaints. I would agree that the dialog is extremely cheesy, but it's not so bad that I get turned off by it. I actually thought the story was more interesting than FFXII (which I didn't like other than the fight system)
There doesn't need to be a contradiction. The moment you make an idiotic statement like "XXX sucks. The only people that could like this are just fooling themselves into liking it" is the moment your words become discredited.
No one has to fool themselves into liking anything. If they like it, they like it. You're arguing for the sake of it at this point.
Did anyone see the commercials for the XBox 360 version that aired during the All Star Celebrity and Frosh/Soph games? I can't find anything on youtube or google, and I was actually surprised Sony is letting just the 360 version air. Figured they would be more forceful in a market where they actually have release competition.

The whole video made me lol.
SO much can be said, but, lol will suffice.
I think lol covers it pretty well.
