DVD Playback issues on PS3

I am having issues with DVDs skipping into a black screen with the sound stopping repeatedly during playback on my PS3. It doesn't happen at all with blu-ray and some DVDs can be played without this problem coming up or it happening 1-2 times during the playback. The first few times it happened it was with older DVDs so I thought maybe it was just a result of some scratches or something but it has persisted with newer DVDs as well so I'm kind of at a loss as to what is causing the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Its probably just dirty, run a cleaning disc.
