    Lowman Sarameya

Did a search and found another thread that helped a bit, but didn't really focus on a lowman strategy.

All the times I've done this fight have been with 18+ people, and were quite a while ago. I'm hoping to try and do it with just my small LS only.

    Few questions:

Should we bother with BLMs? I remember their damage being terrible, and it builds resistance to stun quickly + tanks shouldn't take much damage to firaga/goh anyway right?

Should we have our PLDs sub RDM? I know it's immune to elegy/slow, so it pretty much attacks too fast to keep shadows up? Also with /RDM, how much damage does its normal regular melee hits do? Should our DD sub WAR as well? (SAM/WAR and RNG/WAR)

Wiki says that it does this howl order thing: Howl -> Ululation -> Firaga III -> Magma Hoplon -> Howl. Is this the only time it will use firagaIII/goh outside of chainspell % (89,69 etc).

With the 60minute rage now, should we have any problems killing it with 2 Atonement PLDs, 1 SAM, and 1 RNG in time?

The setup I was thinking about would be:

WHM RDM BRD PLD PLD THF RNG SAM.

Any other general tips would help, thanks in advance.

Gonna suck being whichever DD isn't in the main party unless you're really confident with the PLD's ability to hold hate...even then the SAM or THF is gonna be eating a fuckton of gas and ululation without status recovery/healer.

And no, he will use Firaga III as a part of his usual spell outside CS, and GoH as part of his TP moves arsenal past 25%

Don't bother with stunners, since on top of it building resist, even with partial fire build none of his spells/GoH is that life threatening anyway with barf/carol, it's fairly easy to resist. Though making the THF go /DRK for minimal stun and TH flagging might be not too bad of an idea, since with those setup, best distribution would be THF and RNG outside on the tank party, in which case the THF melee is just gonna get itself killed by ga anyway.

If you insist upon bringing Paladins, definitely have them sub something other than Ninja. Even if Sarameya wasn't so bloody spammy with his -ga, he attacks too fast to maintain shadows. Even as a Red Mage with fairly good spell-timing, I couldn't once get an Ichi up unless he was charging a TP move or casting a spell.

That said, it would behoove you to simply have your Samurai pick up a cheap fire resistance set and tank it, as Sarameya is the type of fight that Seigen was made for. Slap on some Arhat's and other assorted physical damage reduction equipment, and let watch them, in all likelihood, take less damage than anyone else would.

It's been done with 6, I lost with 12, PLD/NIN I thought was a shit tank for this (had 2, one Aegis) does not work, Rage time was definately not 60min.

I didn't think of SAM tanking . We could then change the setup to WHM WHM RDM BRD SAM SAM THF RNG, which looks a lot nicer to have a second whm actually.

I wasn't sure when it did rage; the 60minutes was just on wiki. If it doesn't rage then that's a huge help.

Thanks everyone for the help so far.

That setup would work, key strategy point though is to get it past ~29% and trigger CS without crossing the 25% threshold so that GoH is not in his repetoire. For the final CS at 9%, Meikyo / EES / etc and just drop the fuck out of him. That's how Zilong / Almalexia's group did it when I helped a half dozen times or so and it goes pretty well.

Since our LS is getting pretty close to a pop as well; what's an acceptable setup for a SAM to tank this?

1st time we did Sarameya we took 10 people, regular tank pt (pld/nin x2) whm rdm brd thf and 3 sam/thf + rdm. It was our first attempt and we didn't quite know how different it was from real Cerb. Wasn't the smoothest fight be cause many things, 1 pld kept DCing every 10 min, not enough support for heals/paralyna on the DD and rdms being quite busy to dispel MH and Blaze spikes everytime it used it (we ended up killing almost 2 Sarameyas due to regen, regened around 70% total >.<).

As for people saying sam could be good at tanking, maybe with TE merits, and you would need something else to support him, our plds did have a hard time leaving shadows up due to -gas and 1 of them dcing a lot but wasn't really that bad. As for DD goes, we had a hard time I must say, -gas and Ullulation were a pain in the ass, what I would recomend is to bring 2 rngs or rng+smn, not having to worry about paralyna or healing them that much will help you a lot. As for the rdm, dispeling MH and Blaze spikes is the first thing on the list, if you could get someone to come just to dispel would be a good idea, you don't want to see it's HP go up, belive me =)

I don't understand why. If you're packing the equipment to resist his spells, Gates of Hades shouldn't do more than double digit damage on average, and maybe.. 200 if you get unlucky?

And there's absolutely no point to being /NIN for him. Properly equipped, you can get his hits down to the 40-60 range, and that's not even taking into consideration that Seigen will likely anticipate 4-5 hits per round, purely by virtue of how quickly he attacks.

It's still worse than his other CS moves, and it's not like idling for less for a minute is a big deal.

You need is a good DD setup for when TE is up, a decent fire resist set, a decent enmity macro for Voke, and Arhat's and a Jelly Ring for when TE is down.

Other things in his fire-esque arsenal have higher base damage than GoH, and can easily be reduced down to full resists. I'm not saying its a big deal, I'm just saying that I don't see the point.

I noticed a low man (6?) SS in Kaeko's most recent SCH LJ update. From my memory it looked like 2 melee, tanks maybe?, with fire resist sets, a brd, sch, maybe blm? I'm sure Ashira or Kaeko can fill you in, but check out the pic and you can probably atleast figure out jobs.

    IIRC, SAM/WAR, PLD/DRK, WHM/SCH, SCH/RDM, BRD/WHM, RDM/WHM
