This is from page 316 of the book Ulysses, which Ben was reading on the flight 316 last night.
Not looking at the deeper meaning of that quote but just superficially, talking of lawn tennis(golf?) and Hurley is kind of cute considering he built the golf course for the survivors..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulysses_(novel)

    for plot info on Ulysses

edit: Ben reading Ulysses is kind of interesting cause of why hes so bloody (if he killed Penny or tried to) since the title of Ulysses alludes to Odysseus and his story is paralleled by Desmond since they are both on long boat voyages trying to get back to their love, Penelope.

Season 3 and season 4 shows his addiction, which is why Ben flushed them. Which is why he doesn't have pills to be taking since Ben flushed the. Just because he isn't taking them doesn't mean he isn't addicted. I can just guess you've never taken Oxy. I took it for three years and for the most part people get addicted to Oxy after two weeks of taking it. The withdrawal is the worst thing to have withdrawal from. Which is lately why I can't stand seeing Jack's character because in reality he would be bashing his own head in right now.

No I have. After I fractured my ankle horribly in an skateboarding bail and for about 2 months straight every single day, I got pretty addicted and would just pop about 3-5 every few hours since they were only 5MG's each pill. Once I ran out I didn't go and try to buy some or get another prescription, I just stopped. I didn't like the sick feeling in my stomach when the high wore off, it really felt like taking too much morphine.

I don't know if I wasn't taking them long enough to get that addicted but I know I took a damn good amount of the huge bottle.

Well let's be honest Jack has a lot more important things to do right now than getting high, he realizes this I am sure. I don't think they are going to waste any more time with his addiction. (Unless he finds the statues?) He's back on the island and he has a lot to do.

The pills he was taking looked around the same amount I took, around 160MG that you take ever two hours. 5 isn't enough to help a paper cut.

But anyway, my comment was simply to point out that he has landed on the island with an addiction to heroin just like Charlie. And even if they don't focus more on the addiction itself, he could've done a better job at acting the withdrawal symptoms. We know he is going through it, as we've seen him go crazy trying to get his pills before and stealing them from the hospital.

And withdrawal > anything else you have to do. No matter what is 'important' in your life you will still be going through the symptoms as well. Hell, I almost got fired for simply walking out of working without word because I went a few hours without mine...which is also why you hear so many people killing others over oxy (why they don't have them in most pharmacy as well.) People will kill others just to help their pain from withdrawal. That shit is powerful. It's been over a year since January that I got clean from them but I still go through withdrawal on a daily bases, I have to take suboxone for it.

Anyway, I was going somewhere with this to bring it back around to Lost but I totally forgot what I was getting at lol.

Yeah I have no idea what your point is exactly, but I am glad they aren't focusing on his addiction I just want to get on with the show.

Pretty sure Terry O'Quinn is going to win a golden globe for this next episode.

I truly hope he does, he is by far my favorite actor on T.V now ( I can't even think of anybody that comes close) and he deserves to get more credit for what he does on this show.

Always been my favorite actor of this show since day one...then he amazed me with his advancement...seeing as how I've been in a wheelchair such as his character and knew what he was going through.

I think Ben deserves an award more. Terry O'Quinn's already gotten recognition for the role Michael Emerson hasn't.

I thought he was already nominated, but didn't win, while Terry hasn't gotten a nod for anything.

Edit: Actually double checked and they've both been nominated for Emmy's.

Terry was nominated and won Best Supporting Actor Emmy in 2007.
They were both nominated for it in 2008 and lost to some guy from Damages(currently seen as the Hunter on Heroes).

edit: I was kind of pissed off by the Emmy's in general during Lost's run, they fucking rewrote the rules of how they nominate so it could do better and its gotten snubbed the last 2 years for best writing when Through the Looking Glass/The Constant were the best in their categories easily

A lot of people are speculating on him still having a larger role. For a few reasons, he is more of a known actor, and that they cast him despite not fitting the role right. The dude is barely older then Christine and he is playing his father??? Doesn't make sense.

I'm not much of a bible nut so I don't know the full truth to this, but I've also heard many people say that in the bible Jacob is the great great grandfather of Aaron. So there has been the speculation that Jacob is a Shepard. If not Jack's grandfather, then Jack himself.

Of course this is all just random speculation thrown out that I am just reciting. So don't throw me in the nut house. Cause it totally contradicts all of my speculation about Christine.

Aaron is indeed descended from Jacob, also I think you are reading way too much into the whole age thing, John's dad isn't much older then he is, he'd probably have to be 10 years older if John was born in the 1950s and its fairly common to get ppl to play older then they are. (they probably got him because I'm sure Christian is going to have some sort of flashback or Jack will that will require both Christian and Ray.

Why do you keep bringing this up as if it's a valid point?

Did you know Ian Ziering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia was in his 30s when he played a teenager for the orignal Beverly Hills 90210?

Or the fact that Estelle Getty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia was in her 60s when she played an 80 year old woman in the Golden Girls?

Or that Eric McCormack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is straight but played a gay man in will and grace?

An actor's real life hasn't got anything to do with the character they portray. The character is the character. If your complaint is from how he looks, there are old people who don't look their age at all.

    etc etc blah blah blah.

Dunno why you are saying he's addicted to heroin and.. ya he was taking percocet and he has been busy every single minute so far (since the flush) so withdraw would be minimal. laying around, jacking off, thinking about it would make it horrible.

Also someone in a medical field might know a bit more about handling their own situation than someone who doesn't know anything after taking some pills.

I loved some of the one-liners they had through out the show that people above mentioned. Favorites were:
    'Is he telling the truth?'
    'Probably not'

    'How can you read?'
    'My mother taught me.'

'What about everybody else on the plane?'
    'Who cares?'

'We're not going to Guam, are we?' (<= I cracked up at that)
As for how Hurley got on the plane, like some posted before, I think it's pretty obvious Charlie is supposed to have appeared to him again off-screen. It also looks like he asked him to bring a guitar of his or something.

During Ben's phone call, Penny immediately came to mind. However, since I'm sure it did to lots of people, I don't think she will be dead. Who knows, it may show a flash-back (or forward :s TIME-LINES ZOMG) and it will be Desmond who kicked Ben's ass.

Frank also looked a lot different without that giant-ass Paul Bunyan beard lol.

That isn't me reading into anything. That is a quote from somebody elses theory as I said on the bottom.

Why do you keep bringing this up as if it's a valid point?
How have I been 'keeping bringing it up' when I mentioned it twice, once while quoting somebody else? I was saying it was funny, I wasn't bringing it up as if it was a plot device.[/quote]

You know, the whole topic about me mentioning it got blown out of proportion because somebody misquoted me and people want to keep bringing it up despite the fact I keep saying that.. But I keep saying he is addicted to 'heroin' because oxy is...synthetic 'heroin'.
My entire point of it in the first place was just two simple things...that Charlie was addicted to it when they crashed. ( They had to imitate the first crash, thus he was addicted like Charlie) and that I just wasn't a fan of how he acted.
I was wanting to bring up the way he was like Charlie in the first crash, because somebody has to be like Claire...pregnant. And Jack and Kate had sex the night before. Thus, that is the best chance for Kate to have a baby on the island. Is their baby Jacob? Most likely not because Aaron is the decedent of Jacob, not the other way around.

But anyways, you guys act like I don't know anything about the pills, I knew more about it more then any own damn doctor, which is what fucked me up cause my doctor was a dumb ass. I've studied extensively all opiates.(I in fact have papers on it) And it's not like I wasn't busy when I was taking it, I was busy running a business, dealing with a pregnant, suicidal girlfriend, all the while becoming homeless. Which doesn't leave much time laying around, jacking off.

Grr, but that isn't even the point, people keeping bringing it up off topic which keeps making me ramble and its driving me nuts. But its ok, is to be expected because this is a Lost topic and every little thing is discussed.

When or where do you suspect the plane to have crashed? Or do you think it crashed at al? In the previews it shows Locke talking to one of the women from the plane but I don't think that would be in the time frame that Jack and the others are.
My guess is the oceanic six got thrown back into the 1970s to be with the rest of their group and the Dharma. But the rest of the plane crashed in 2007. The main reason I still suspect it crashed was because in the past episodes they found wreckage and a water bottle from the airline.

Aaron is indeed descended from Jacob
Are you referring to the Bible? If so, doesn't Jacob have a twin? A first born that is much stronger then Jacob. Good vs evil? Two twins that founded their own nation and were at war with themselves ever since...two island sections... *dot dot dot*

Ive always said that if they kill off Locke, I'd quit watching the show. Then they kill him off. So I manage to convice myself that since the character probably isnt really out of the show, it will be alright, because as long as he's in it to some degree, I'm happy. Now they hint that he is alive again on the island! Woot! Best show ever!

Twins depends on translation, Sunday school for me they weren't twins. But basically, Jacob has an older brother who the father favors cause he is the first born, Jacob then tricks the father into giving him the blessing of the first born. The older brother is pissed, and Jacob's mom sends him away until the older brother cools off. He goes off, has wives and kids in the mean time, eventually the two make peace without any real bloodshed between them though. It would be interesting but the biblical story doesnt fit at all really with what you are proposing imo. Since there is no real good/evil in the Jacob/Esau story, if anything its Esau that is innocent and good and its Jacob thats a bit of an evil douche, tricking his dad/brother etc.
