Indeed, and from the preview for next week, it looks like he thinks he was sent back to kill Ben while he is still a teenager. He wasn't hanging around Faraday so he doesn't know he won't be able to. If anything, Ethan is just further proof that 'Whatever happened, happened'.

I don't think I saw anything about him in it. If you were talking my comment, it was more the fact that he was born. When they first found his mom 3 years ago and she was getting ready to die, Daniel said 'Whatever happened, happened' meaning they wouldn't be changing anything. Since we met Ethan in Season 1, his mother must have survived to have him, which is because Sawyer saved her. We'll probably see in an upcoming episode that either Richard or young Ben will find out how they planned to get back to the island which is why they ordered the construction of the runway. In order for it have happened, it had to have happened first. /head explodes
