Safe to say the Island is the Garden of Eden?
Safe to say the Island is the Garden of Eden?
I kinda thought the shirt was purple. . .
I am really interested to see where this goes next year.
This could be a plausible explanation for the man in black and that rivarly they have going on.
Time frame may fit as well.
Notice the older clothing at the beginning, the egyptian hieroglyphs and the statue. BTW the statue is not Ra (the sun god) but looks like Anubis, which is the god of the underworld.....maybe they are all in purgatory..

I think Richard is from the egyptian times, something about that eyeliner...
The ship seemed to be a later time period that Jacob and man in black were living in on the island. It seemed more of a columbus era ship.
I think this is creating a 12 monkeys type time loop... Jacob and man in black were discussing things like it all ends the same but Jacob said there was "progress". If the timeframe did reset and Jacob and man in black are old bilblical figures or demigods then they would have the previous knowledge on what to do or what not to do the next round.
What language was Richard and that woman speaking when she asked what lies in the shadow? Latin? Spanish?
I wonder how many times the producers have to explicitly state that it has nothing to do with Purgatory for people to actually believe it?
As shown in the page previous. It's not Anubis because the statue has a crocodile snout, not a dog's. Taweret ~ Goddess of fertility
Blue/black it's no matter what it is. It's still dark clothing vs Jacob's light clothing and still fits into the dark/white contrasting theme.
I dont know if anyone has said anything about this yet, I havent read every post so far. But about jacob touching everyone, I kinda took it from the scene where lock fell that he might have been dead or about to die when jacob touched him. Looked like he wasnt breathing untill he was touched.
Yeah it looked like Jacob revived him. It really seems like Jacob has been expecting this attack by his rival for a long time. If he didn't save John then it couldn't have happened. I guess we need more info to understand why Jacob visited all these characters at some point and what events he is trying to set in motion. Season 6 will tell all!
True, death was an underworld, another realm. Purgatory is a later religious concept. But I think it is important to consider the egyptian symbology scattered all over the island, on the temples, in the statues and on the tapestry Jacob weaves.
I also don't think Taweret is the statue because Lostpedia says the statue has been referred to in masculine terms, and Taweret's defining feature is a swollen belly (hence the fertility).
Upon more research Sobek is a better fit for this statue, due to the lack of ears pointing to anubis. This explains the teeth and the dual ankhs.
Interesting read on Sobek http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/sobek.htm, notice the references in the mythology to "Horus".
i just watched it for the 4th time
my mind is so blown
So the man at the start talking with Jacob = smoke monster. That is awesome, so fucking awesome. I want to know more about him and how he came to be the monster. He said told Jacob he had no idea how badly he wanted to kill him and something about a loophole.
So does anybody know what the translation was when Richard answered "what lies beyond the shadow of the statue"?
You are talking about the man with the grey hair at the beginning right? Well it isn't confirmed but that's what I think. He said he wanted to kill Jacob and something about a loophole, so why wouldn't he be the smoke monster?
Edit: Actually in that post right above you, click on that video and go to 19.
