Anubis is the god of death (so I don't think quite think Jacob would be living inside of it) Sobek-Ra is the god of life and according to the Wiki doesn't take part in making good, but instead pushes people towards doing good or righting a wrong (lunchbox for Kate?)

The Sayid thing throws a wrench into all of it, did he save his life or make him suffer? (they both probably could have gone past the car if he didn't stop them) Fantastic fucking episode.

..and not that it means anything but the ending where the "LOST" logo came out from the white light was pretty awesome.

Edit: According to the biblical references, Jacob had 12 sons, the last one was named Benjamin.

How the fuck did they manage to work all that in?

I think we are suposed to believe he saved Sayid life, but I assume the scene was poorly done, because there is no way Sayid would get hit by a car.

And Jacob page was already done. they simply added 2 paragraph and a few picturesé

Would be very interesting if it was Locke, but after seeing the screencap, it's kinda hard to argue its not Jack.

I'm more interested in what is going to happen now that Jacob is gone kind of sad how they reveal him just to kill him at the end of the episode but it's safe to assume he'll be back next year in some form at least I hope so. When he met hurley in the cab that had more significance than the others in my opinion.
Pretty sure that was due to the bomb blowing up.

There's too much there for him to be done. I'm mainly interested in Alana's history with him now. When he visited her she obviously knew who he was. I agree about Hurley as well. Although I think Alana's visit may play a bigger part.

Especially since the people he has touched (assuming that is how they can come to the island) have had nothing but bad shit happen to them since they got there.
That idea came to mind for me as well but I don't think its the case (although it wouldn't surprise me too much). He just doesn't seem like the type.

As for the ship, remember the conversation at the beginning, Adaberk guy said it always ends up the same way then Jacob said it only has to happen once, then everything else is progress. That leads me to believe he thought they had a chance at doing whatever it is but ultimately something happened to make it not happen.

I think that was probably a test of sorts that had to do with the opening conversation since Jacob said that Ben had a choice. Was interesting to see Ben become the manipulated one after all the manipulating he's done.

Went and looked up a scene from an earlier episode to look for something that might make sense now.

YouTube - LOST 4x11 Richard Alpert visits young Locke

Is the knife the same one Ben uses to kill Jacob?

If it is, that could be why Richard was so worked up when Locke said it was his.

Richard said at some point that he left the island twice to go see John locke, and not once, the kid seemed to be "special". I think richard was worked up because John failled the test, not because he picked the knife.

If anything, John locke kept the knife after that scene, and it eventually became the one he used on the island.

Maybe that's what he wanted. Right now, there is no choice because both him and his nemesis (can we just call him Esau?) know the future. For the same reason, Esau didn't need to ask any question to people on the Black pearl, because he already knew the answer.

The only person who could kill Jacob would be someone with unclear destiny who is able to make a true choice (Others?). If Jacob was going to intervene more than this in Ben's decision, he would go against his mission to give people a real choice.

    [edit]
Esau actually mean hairy. It's kinda funny, because the first time I saw the actor on the beach, I actually thought his beard was messy.

That's what I thought, it was almost as if jacob wanted to die. I mean he probably knew this was coming yet he didn't run off, and also he was probably the one who saved the young ben when he got shot 30 years ago. That leads to the question of why he intentionally created a loophole and was ultimately killed because of it? I think jacob wants to die all along after such an eternity. Remember his dialog with Esau?

Jacob, "It only ends once, the ones happen before are just progress."

He has been wanting to die long long time ago, that's why he has constantly brought people to the island so that the existence of a loophole would become a possibility. Now even jacob's dead, he still got the last laugh because it's all part of the plan.

I took a close look and the knife that Richard presented to John as a kid is most definitely not the knife that Ben used to kill Jacob. The knife shown to Locke as a kid had a crude wooden grip without a guard and a narrow blade and the one Ben used to kill Jacob was a fancier grip with a guard and wider blade.

Yeah, the knife isn't his. The item he was "supposed" to pick is the compass. Now, if this is the same compass that they refer to in the game(I know, SHITSUX); then it says "Via Domus" on it, right?

Well, if everything goes back to normal, meaning oceanic 815 didn't crash, juliet will still be a scientist somewhere.

    Huzzah! Great news!

I don't think everything can be reset because that'd just be weird and I don't see how they'd have a story from there... Also, depending on how the nuke worked, wouldn't Juliet even end up on the island since the incident didn't happen/happened differently?

Also, I agree that Jacob wanted Ben to stab him and he seems to still be manipulating everything. He obviously wanted Locke to make it to the island, and if we assume Locke's only purpose was to become a disguise for Esau, then that means he wanted that to happen.

Thinking about it, when Jacob touched Locke after he fell from the window, didn't he say something like "I'm sorry this happened to you"? Maybe he wasn't just apologizing for the fact he fell from out the window (something Jacob manipulated so he'd get rejected from his safari or w/e and end up on 815), but also so that he'd be completely misled and used on the island.

He also said everything will be alright or something along those lines, which makes me want more real Locke.

Juliet's falling scene and the end got me choked up. I think of all the characters she wanted to leave the island more than anyone so it was heartbreaking to see that seemingly not happen.

So thinking about it... the man in black must have saved Ben. He probably has a debt to him and he doesn't want to let go, obviously if he went through the trouble of scaring the shit out of him. If he truly is the smoke monster in some way then he did save his life.

I am thinking the same applies to Richard, but with Jacob. Maybe he came on that ship and got injured. Jacob saves his life, makes him immortal. Has him do everything he says and works for him with the utmost loyalty for decades.

Damn I really can't wait to see how this all ends... I can't even imagine. We are probably so far off.

Edit: Actually a serious question for all of you.

How many of you are actually pleased with the character that played Jacob? Did you all think he did a very good job? Was he the right man to be chosen for it? Did you find him interesting?

Throughout the seasons of hearing his name and how great he is, I honestly expected someone more intimidating but somehow it's sitting very well with me. I sure hope he isn't dead.

I thought he did a really good job as Jacob. I agree that up until now, I expected Jacob to be some omnipotent, all-business type character, but the portrayal of him as kind, almost nurturing person was really well done. It probably comes down to, up until now, we've only really experienced Jacob through either Ben's manipulations or Esau's illusions, so we've been misled up until now about what type of person he is.

I haven't gone back to re-watch, but I'm pretty sure he said it only ENDS once, and everything else is just progress, meaning they cannot reach an ending because they exist in a (time)loop, and that the end will only come when it's broken (The Loophole).
