    I really don't understand how ANYONE could spend $25,000 on a wedding. We spent around $5,000, maybe a bit more, and that was including the rings and the short honeymoon. If we splurged and took a longer vacation, we may have been able to stretch out the wedding to about $10,000. If you are spending $25,000+ on a wedding, you are pissing away money in useless areas.

    I don't know how neither since I have never married. But a lot sites, including CNN are reporting the average is from $22,000 to $30,000 in 2005, and it has been going up since.

    Survey finds average cost of wedding close to $30,000 - May. 20, 2005

    Well, to be fair, we made out cheap in a few areas because of who we know (We were out about $1,000 between the food and pictures and that usually sets you back a few grand). $10,000 may not be too absurd, as I go through this in my head, we were probably well over $5,000. God, what a waste of money for something that lasts a few hours =/

    Watch how fast your money disappears when you have an open bar with over 150 guests. Depending on location, dinner, and bar situation, I can easily see the reception costing over 10K if you want all the perks.

    My feelings were that for my wedding reception, if there isn't a nice dinner and an open bar, why even bother with a party? >_>;;

    Edit: I just checked, and for a 'complete' open bar at a place im looking at, it's $25 a head. Assuming I bring 150 people, thats $3750 right there. Almost four grand, just for drinks. It seems insane, but I've been to weddings before where all they had was cheap beer and boxed wine, and it sucked so much ass. :_:

    If I had a wedding, I wouldn't be inviting hundreds of people. Chances are I wouldn't give two shits about half of them. I'd only want to invite people who I actually know and talk to on a fairly regular basis -- you know, people who would truly give a shit and wouldn't go there out of obligation.

    'Course, if your families are large enough and communicate regularly, and you actually are only inviting people you know well, good luck with the tab.

    I'm the kind of person who'd probably be wed in a park or something though, then go on a fairly basic honeymoon. Screw the expensive garbage, I'd rather be down to nature.

    That's why you're supposed to go inside. That way you can enjoy your food in the proper atmosphere, and drink Slurm.
    What is slurm you ask?
    Slurm is a mixture of Baja Blast and Regular Mountain Dew, at a rough 1:1 ratio. When prepared properly, the beverage should be bright green.

    Tyche, how much did you guys spend on your honeymoon? $25k + engagement ring + honeymoon sounds like I will be taking out a mortgage in order to get married.

    As much as I'm all for simple and easy weddings (mine will most likely consist of going to the courthouse and signing the necessary paperwork and being done w/ it...), this just screams whiskey tango. Did the groom wear a t-shirt with a tux on the front of it?

    Honeymoon was cheap, but rather lackluster in comparison to most. We had our baby. We went to my favorite places in the world...Museums. We didn't have a place to leave the baby for an entire week+, so we took a few days off to St. Louis. Tasha has a friend who runs some Hilton Hotel chains in West Viriginia, so she made some calls and we stayed at the Hilton in downtown St. Louis by Cardinals Stadium. I think it was a couple hundred bucks. We went to the Arch, Zoo, Museums (St. Louis museum of science is fucking incredible), etc. Most of those were free. We also went to a couple of amusement parks. It's hard to do too much when you have a kid and the grandparents couldn't keep her. We didn't spend much at all. If we could have shaved the kid off we would've went to Florida or Cancun. Protip: Bride's parents are -supposed- to pay for the wedding. Unfortunately, we flipped the bill for ours. Marry rich and suck up to her parents and you're golden. My wife, amazingly, was content with just going to the court house and legalizing it. It was my idea to do the whole ceremony. If I could do it again, I would have just went to the courthouse and spent the 5-6 grand flying out to Europe and visiting Paris and the Louvre. I have a friend over there in the military, so that would have been reasonable.

    If anyone hasn't heard the Ben Folds song Effington you should, it's pretty good and it mentions Normal, Ill.

    Perhaps, but with that $100, they can get married again later.

    I don't drink soda but I'm going to have to try this just for the novelty. Good show!
