seems impossible, dash with d-pad charge with stick?

or is there something i don't know about charge moves (wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility)

in terms of awesome combos, some chunners pulled off a focus -> dash back -> (jump) first stomp -> target combo -> ex spinning bird kick -> ultra on me the other day, it was gorgeous

SF4 buffers the fuck out of inputs, so charge moves have a lot of leeway. You can charge back, then tap forward, forward, back, forward and you'll get the dash while still having the Ultra come out. The same kind of thing let's Blanka cancel a ball into Super, and let's Balrog link Ultra off headbutt.

On the discussion of buffered inputs, the worst example involves how the game registers the inputs for DPs. You can tap down/forward twice + punch to get a Shoryuken, for example. If you're knocked down and think you might get cross up, just wiggle the stick back and forth between down/forward and back/forward. Hit punch for Reversal, and the game will pick the right direction for you. God, this game sucks.

I think I've finally decoded what it takes for a fighter to suck or not suck.

Super cancelling and Balrog's headbutt into Ultra are kind of different. Super cancels work the exact same way for every character in that you perform the motion for a normal special, and follow it with another motion and button press for the super. You aren't really "losing" the charge because you would have had to input the first forward motion for the super even if you weren't canceling another special move.

And Balrog's headbutt > Ultra combo is possible because you can still maintain your back charge by holding UpBack when you input the headbutt. (balrog's headbutt is Down, up) Going from Upback, forward, back, forward is the exact same as starting from downback. It makes perfect sense, imo.

Now the shoryuken shortcut is the only thing that pisses me off. I hate it when I try to input my Ultra with Abel and the game gives me an ex falling sky. It happens waaaay too often.

    i can see his pov.

with blanka you can hold back, hop foward with the HK + MK + LK back, foward and than hold PPP to psyche em out.

so i went on ranking for the 1st time in forever.
i totally forgot you dont get pts from ppl that d/c from the pts given chart after the battle. i mustve goten like 120 pts but only 30 of them went through because of those d/c's. kinda lame. i rather them d/c during the fight and not waste my time :/

edit: actually idc. its all good. at least it was fun and i had matches. i cant seem to get any on player's or champ mode lol. i rather have fights with sore losers than no fights at all

Rose Ball is a lot more run than I thought it would be. I lost by one match against my friend though. ><

He is my personal hero. There may be many negro MvC2 players, but he will forever be my favorite. Scoops. Scoops Hagen-Daz.

I dunno what I'm going wrong but I'm back down to like 30 BP again(not like I ever broke 200 anyway -.-). Either I'm not doing it right or Viper is horribly online unfriendly. I know that I need to FA through fireballs but it's kinda pointless when there's another right on the way behind it. I try jumping over them(even straight up) and always get punished for it. Not to mention I swear some people are using turbo controllers in some matches....

yea yea. cry moar. I know but I needed to vent. ><

when you FA, you dash to get out of that animation to get ready to leap over the next one or embrace it.

you're still sorta new. nothing wrong w/it. we ALL start somewhere. just keep at it. you are starting off with one of the harder characters to master. after you understand all the mechanics of her, you will be one of the biggest pains of asses online and a fear to a lot of ppl. i know i get scared when my opponent picks dhalsim or viper. if you need some combo help or frame rate info go here:

First thing I thought was, he is holding down FA and letting the fireball hit and then going through the motion.

You have to hold FA -> let fireball hit -> dash back or foward and let go. You can do this through as many fireballs as your fingers are capable.

Are you playing on PS3? Do you have a mic?

yeah, i started out using viper but when i just couldn't beat anyone i swapped over to the chunners, in about a week i was up to 1000bp (for what it's worth) and I'm now going back to viper to try her out again, and i'll say that she's somewhat difficult to play with against people online

she has good combos and spacing and everything, but a lot of her moves take a relatively long time and the combos aren't easy to be very consistent with, for instance crouching heavy punch -> ex seismic hammer -> jump cancel into flame kick -> ultra (in a corner)

i just find her oddly slow but also very quick, just weird for me in any case, i'd suggest trying out some of the dime a dozen characters so you don't feel like you're just getting railed every game (try sagat, you really can't go wrong with him, just hit them a couple of times and you're golden, no combos needed!)

It's normal with Viper to get beat a lot when you get started with her. I know I lost a ton of matches with her when I first started, but somewhere along the line something will click and you'll start winning.

And that's when things really get fun

" just find her oddly slow but also very quick"

Yanno I was thinking the same thing. She's light on her feet but everything except thunder knuckles takes forever and a day to come out.

I'm on the Xbox right now. I do have a friend who has like 4500 BP trying to help me but he is a Sakura player. Kinda sol when it comes to combos unless I start using her also lol. My XBL tag is Raggycakes if someone wants to have a personal punching bag for a bit.

My favorite moment of last night was when I was trying to get the Lobbyist achievement. I got paired up with a Level 5 Hard Trial Title, 4300 BP Chunner player. That was a good time. lol...

I honestly do enjoy the game but the online thing has been driving me up a wall. I'll practice those combos Rich linked to tonight or try and find an alt just for online until I get better.

The reason why she seems quick is because of her super jump. Otherwise most of her moves have slow start up.

I hope you aren't playing any games with 2 bars or lower because they're a waste of time ;o I checked out the link, and you can tell pretty much all the combos are a variation of the following:

(jump in attack) -> (some attack linked to EX hammer) -> (super jump cancel to flame kick) -> (HP thunder knuckle or ultra if at corner)

As long as you can get the seismic hammer -> super jump cancel flame kick into your muscle memory you'll generally be okay as far as combos are concerned.

A couple more combos not listed in the page:
    - Fierce -> TK Feint -> Fierce (and then link to EX hammer, etc) is very flashy and powerful but it's very hard to do (I still can't do it most of the time)

    - HP thunder knuckle -> ultra: the timing is very strict but it's very useful. But if you whiff the ultra... you're dead :D

I think that might be my problem then. The only games I can manage to join under "Same Skill" setting are 0-3 bars at most. The only TK that I can cancel regularly using my gamepad is the EX one since I'm already hitting two punches to begin with. Probably going to try sliding my thumb or something. I'm dying to try it in the arcade but the only place that would have had any kind of cabinet was Tokyo Gaming Action but they flooded a while ago which put them out of business. :/

Forgot to put it in my last post but thanks for the tip on the FADC Weltall. I'll practice that by recording a Ken spamming fireballs in training mode.

Yeah I can't imagine trying to TK feint with a pad... I guess you can always press the PPP button wherever it's mapped.
