So it's only really fun for you when you can SPD? It sure isn't fun for the other person against you. Totally different strategies Gief vs Ken so the comparison doesn't apply. What they are doing is an effective strategy for gief, it's kinda your responsibility to figure out how to get in. Sure it's a lamefest, but that's the case for almost every matchup against Gief. Comes with the territory.

i understand, it's easy enough to play a game where all everyone does is sit back and throw fireballs, winning is fine but it's boring as shit and really lame, i get why people do it but it seems like it really can't be that much fun to just sling fireballs for 15 minutes and then shoryuken when someone does get close then just back up and fireball again

then again you're gief, i'm usually a really aggressive player but against most giefs i tend to stay at at least mid range

Against Ryu/Ken:

Lariat all day. Wait until you have some meter and try to focus cancel/green hand your way in. (just watch out for Ex fireballs) As soon as you're in range, try an Ex-SPD or whatever move you can to get him on the ground. Once you have your opponent knocked down, it's all about crazy wakeup games.

Against Sagat: Try to keep up the pressure with well timed jumpins from mid range. Iirc, Zangeif's jumping Fierce punch can reach almost half the screen. Watch out for random tiger knees and uppercuts and punish accordingly.

Against Akuma: good luck!

I gave you advice first off. Also, you are in the wrong game/genre if you think pro players in the SF community don't talk down to other players. That IS what the ENTIRE community is about lol. About as friendly as it gets is your local arcade or coast team vs. the other side of the countrys. That is what makes it MAHVEL! (wrong thread :O)

This is why I never really understood what the thrill is in playing gief. This is the kind of play you can expect in almost every round against a good player. If he's good in sticking to the keepaway strategy, you're in for a long booooooring battle (see Akuma vs. Gief). Players who don't know the matchup are the ones you can have fun with, otherwise no game.

You really have to enjoy chasing/FA'ing through projectiles and teleports. If you don't get off on that stuff, don't play Gief. It has nothing to do with the online community but everything to do with the matchup.

No, you're wrong. So wrong. Like, you're off the fucking charts wrong. I've been in competitive vs. for awhile now (Brawl atm), and that is NOT how the community works. There's a huge difference between casuals and tourney players, and only the latter talk to each other like how you did to Celphius. Calling a casual a "fucking scrub" is like calling a gay guy a cock sucker. Of fucking course both do what you imply (a casual more-or-less sucks at the game), but it doesn't mean you have to be a straight-up dick and call them out for it. Now, if Celphius was some self-proclaimed tourney player, then you have every right to call him out on his many flaws and name-game him. But he's just confused, and you should correct him. When he doesn't take your advice, then be an asshole.

People like you only promote a boxed-in community, which doesn't promote newbies. It's fucking ridiculous.

edit: I might as well add that what I said above is a blanket statement, and it doesn't apply to everyone who is considered a pro in any vs. community. There's going to be that asshole who calls everyone a scrub regardless of skill, but that doesn't mean we should imitate his behavior.

That's how all communities worked, and how regions do too. I was in the 3S community, and everyone was really helpful and kind to me because I didn't know jack-shit. Plus don't even "lolbrawl" me when you play SF4 kiddo.

There's a difference between asking for help and QQ'ing about the game being broken. See last page's friendly advice on how to FA through fireballs. You just need to learn what to do and practice at it.

I'm casual too, and I get annoyed with fireball spammers just the same. Nothing wrong with the game, I just need to get better. At least practicing isn't a problem, online is filled with shoto's spamming fireballs. ;p
