i think if join choi practiced and took SFIV more seriously from the beginning, he would've given justin more run for his money. his execution is fucking crazy for someone who's only been playing it like a month or so (according to that slasher guy anyway)

both commentators were idiots. i remember seeing Jon choi participating in Gamespot.com's street fighter IV launch tournament, so the idea of him being "new to the game" is a load a crap.

To be fair the commentators mentioned they were just going by what they'd heard from Choi himself - that he was 'new' to the SF4 scene.

Also, the chat was hilarious. Since gootecks was crying about the seeding (which was pretty retarded, but still) everytime he was on the screen there was spam about "googootecks smelly diapers" lol

I think the most entertaining part of it all was how the hosts/guests activly responded to the wishes of the chatroom. Thats what kept it hillarious. Also, that guy who looks like shang tsung saying, "Your soul is mine!" bout made me shit my pants. Also, the black guy commentator was hillarious, he was not as funny as yipes himself, but was good on short notice.

I've made it out to almost all the tournies in norcal and choi has not been active in the tournament scene, but word is hes coming to the next big 128 man tourney next weekend. He was telling the truth about how long he has been taking the game seriously, but honestly, hes John Choi...hes just permanently god like.

Also, DjWheat is the man and I think its gonna be a mistake if evo gets IGN over him...

@Choi: I didn't get the lovefest over him. He has always been good @ ST, but his Ryu has a lot of holes. I wouldn't even say in the top 10 Ryu when you factor in Japan players with the better NA Ryus. There was a LOT of quality players missing from Devastation. Choi won't even make top 8-12 at Evo.

For example, the announcers kept talking about his superb execution, but I seen a ton of times where he didn't punish nearly enough or missed a FADC and followed up with an ex-SRK.

his execution definitely wasnt perfect, but it will get there, again he hasnt been playing seriously for too long. where choi shines is in his fundamentals and footsies. that shit wins u games.

where did you guys hear about Thawk and Deejay? I'd be super excited for some new character DLC.

As for Choi, I don't know. I still think that half of these guys are overrated. I went to Tokyo a couple weeks ago and the competition compared to the NA wasn't even close. I felt like a white guy on a basketball court..... it was that bad. Seriously, if JP's top 100 duked it out with NA's top 100. I'd say we'd have maybe 1-2 guys finish in the top 20.

edit: And I'm not claiming to be any good at Street Fighter. Just saying that the level of execution/skill is ridiculous. I was prepared to get my ass beat in the arcades, but literally every person there had about 20k+ BP and raped the shit out of my face.

The only NA I've played that could maybe hang with them is Scunsion. Real talk.

I think I played Scunsion 1-2 times? back when I only played lolSakura and the game first hit consoles. Have to play again if he is good comp.

There was way too many top players missing from Devastation. Most of the east coast players didn't even show up (EC like 50x outperforming WC at SF4) and they will at Evo. JP will land at Evo and rape some face. Korea will have enough to kick some NA players down as well.

I'm telling you, Choi won't make top 8 (or maybe even top 24) at Evo. Wong blasted through the west coast this past weekend leaving a gap so large they don't have enough time to even think about closing it, especially when Sanford/Yipes/Exe/LIJOE/Desmond/EMP Arcadia are all about to invade the west.

Those RANBATS the west is filled with isn't enough to withstand the BEAST COAST!
