fuck capers, this was the right choice. I can't stand 3-4 defense.

What's particularly wrong with Ted Thompson? He had the foresight to get rid of the problem child at exactly the right time. Some of his drafts are questionable I guess, but...I don't really have much of a problem with him.

I see the Favre situation as a huge error on his part. Rodgers certainly played well enough this year, and you really can't pin their failures on him. But it's plain to see that they essentially swapped out 1 major piece and the results were a lot worse. IMO, that shows a huge loss of team chemistry.

But even ignoring Favre, given how polarizing the opinions are on that, there are a ton of other, little problems with Ted's leadership. Justin Harrell is a joke pick; maybe he'll develop some day, but they had more pressing needs they could have addressed that year instead of taking a flyer on him. He won't part with a 3rd or 4th round pick to get Randy Moss...who then goes on to have the best statistical season for a WR ever. AJ Hawk has been good, but not really #5 in the draft good. And somehow, they still continue to plug Barnett into the middle each season, even though his antics and stupidity do as much or more to hurt the team than his occasional inspired play helps them. Yet Capers is supposed to build their new defensive scheme around him.

Maybe he'll make some moves to address problems in the off-season...but that's just not the way Ted operates. Seattle dumped his ass for a reason. Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but Ted's decisions turn out to be crap a lot more than they turn into gold.

Hmm, should I go ahead and make the superbowl thread? Didn't know how long I should give it to bake. 2 weeks of superbowl talk is absurd. Thought about making it today/tonight so we can have 2 weekends to argue.

Um, Green Bay scored more points this season than all but 3 teams. Rodgers doesn't play defense, neither did Favre. The fact that they scored 39 more points than they allowed, and still went 6-10, gives me reason to believe that this team is quality and this season was just a weird fucking anomaly. The defense needs revamping from a D-line and coaching point of view, and it looks like they're going to get it. Next year should be good.

I'll give you the Randy Moss thing, that was stupid, and Harrell was a shitty pick, but I feel most other GMs would've allowed Favre to come back, and that's what makes Thompson the guy I want.

Hawk and Barnett are both very good linebackers, and hopefully the 3-4 will show that off more. I don't really know how you could fault the picks or usage of either.

You sound either very petty or a like a Favre cock-rider.

Oh wow, I didn't realize what GB's planning - they're going to move Kampman to OLB...6'4, 265 lb linebacker. Should be interesting. Barnett and Hawk will be the ILBs, and Poppinga, Kampman and Chillar will be the OLBs, with Cullen Jenkins and Johnny Jolly on the ends and Ryan Pickett at nose tackle.

    Hmmm...

Yep, they'll probably use Kampman at "linebacker" the same way the Dolphins utilize Porter, the Chargers Merriman, and the Cowboys Demarcus Ware.

ie: Line him up at DE on running/pass rush downs and pull him out when they're playing any type of man to man coverage.

This is why I hate the 3-4. It's the same fucking shit as a 4-3 only one guy his used as a pseudo linebacker for absolutely no good reason.

Well, considering your examples of where it's used are of 3 of the best in the game right now...

...that's probably why they do it.

Those guys would be 1 man wrecking crews no matter what scheme they played in.

They might call Kampman a "LB" but he'll still be playing as a DE. What's the point of changing the name of his position when he's still going to be doing the same exact things on defense? The only teams that run a true 3-4 (or at least run it well) are the Steelers, Ravens, and sometimes NE. Everyone else can gtfo wth their fake 4-3's.

...pretty sure the difference between DE and LB is whether you line up on the line of scrimmage or not... Obviously any time they have 4 down lineman they're in a 4-3. Since Capers created the Steelers' 3-4, I'm hoping he knows what he's doing.
