Ricardo Montalban, who presided over TV's Fantasy Island as the all-knowing, vaguely mysterious Mr. Roarke, and menaced Captain Kirk in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as the film's chest-baring villain, died today. He was 88.

Montalban's death was announced by a city council member from Los Angeles, the city the Mexican-born actor had worked in, and starred in, for more than 65 years.

Montalban won one Emmy, for the 1978 miniseries, How the West Was Won, and was presented with the Screen Actors Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994.

Probably not anyone too significant to most people, but with the new Star Trek movie coming out I figure there's at least some relevance to posting about the death of one of Star Trek's greatest villains ever.

My grandfather is coming up on 90, parties harder than most teenagers, enjoys life, goes on vacations all over the world, enjoys fine wine and generally just livin' it up in his pretty large house
