That might very well be the case, in which case, we're really never going to know for sure. Which whilst unfortunate, would be understandable.

Looking at some of the research that has been made on human sexuality over the years (granted, I can't think of anything but the Kinsey report off the top of my head), it might very well be that some might be willing to share (at least under confidentiality(sp?) how they perceive things. I can however not deny that if people are indeed this timid about their sexuality, we might not get very far. But not trying most certainly isn't going to get us anywhere.

I don't see any proof to back the shit up. Either your views on gays are skewed or what, but what makes you really think they'll be a "problem" on the battlefield/a serious situation?

You teach every soldier discipline and instill it very quickly, those that cant hack it are gone quickly 1 way or the other. I served in the army myself, and I seriously don't see a male soldier gay or straight having additional negative effects to morale or "getting the job done." If the straight male is insecure around gay men, that's his problem, not the army's.

A soldiers problem IS the armies problem. Speaking from experience (having been deployed and going back this year), distractions from relationships and drama get people killed. This isnt kinkos, we arent refilling copy machines or greeting at walmart. This is the army. We have 200,000 people in harms way at any given time, that are overworked and already stressed about being away from their families/friends/country. Many of the same distractions that come from a coed unit (and there are a fuck ton) will carry over to units that were all male but now have this added distraction.

Assuming 5 or so soldiers are gay out of every 100, thats 5 I have to worry about being distracted, and another 10 that may not feel comfortable being around them (wether that is the "wrong" mentality or not). Wether it is "ok" for private jenkins to be looking at sergeant Johnson's ass isnt the question, the question is why he missed that IED hidden on the side of the road while he was checking his buddy out.

Like I said, this isnt walmart, these arent harvard grads, and any form of distraction can kill. Id rather send 10 sexest/biggot soldiers home alive than 8 open minded soldiers home in a casket.

It's obvious that you understand this much better than I (and no, that wasn't sarcasm) as I have never been in the military and that you have experience actually leading. So, my question to you is, what would be the optimum solution then? Would you prefer barring any gays and women from the battlefield because it might cause a problem and because it makes your job harder? Even if this means taking away a job from someone who has a true passion for it and is very good at it?
