PSP Hacking
So, DE finally delivered my battery.
I have my Magic Memory stick ready. Formatted and then everything on it installed.
I go and charge my battery. Everything's working fine so far.
And then I go and try to test the battery. So far, its a bit wtf.
Whenever I put then battery in. My PSP's Power light turns on, as if I turned it on.
Is this natural, or did Deal Extreme give me a broken battery?
And no, I cannot get it to run the cracking software.
*Sigh* Damn you Deal Extreme.
-
Yes, the light is supposed to turn on. Put the magic memory stick in, put in the battery, hold down the right trigger and it'll start up and you can hit X to flash the firmware.
-
Alright. I did that and nothing happened. So I stop a step back.
I double checked to see that the memory card was in there.
Then I put the battery back in. As soon as it was fitted inside, the power light turned on. I did not switch it.
Then I held right trigger.
So far, nothing is happening.
Edit: This is using a 100X series Pandora battery on a 200X Firmware 3.71 PSP

The pandora doesn't work as a battery so the PSP shouldn't even take you to the XMB. Does the tool have a switch you can turn to make it a pandora OR regular battery?
If it works, your wifi light will blink several times.
Anyway, try this:
1. Remove the pandora and unplug your PSP
2. Plug it back again
3. Hold the R trigger
4. Insert battery
Should overwrite all the crap it has to ;x

DealExtreme: $6.90 PSP Unbricker Pandora Battery for PSP 1000/2000 (1800mAh/3.6V) Is what I bought. 100X Pandora. It does not have a switch.
By plug, I assume to a source of power.
In anycase, I'll start with making sure the memory card is in. Check.
1. PSP is not receiving any power from any source. Check
2. PSP is now receiving power from source (Not battery)
3. I am holding the right trigger.
4. Battery is in. Power light went orange. Nothing else is happening. I am still holding the right trigger.

Check how much juice the battery has, it should be around 80~ full.
-
Battery charge on the Pandora battery is showing me 85%

Do the steps above again, this time remove your MMS too and put it before step 1. If it still doesn't work, create the MMS again. Size and brand of your Pro Duo?
-
Still nothing. Even with a remake MMS.

Try it different ways, like don't plug you PSP, etc. Initially I had the same problems. If your Pro duo is > 4gig or fake, it won't work.
-
What about a SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo (2GB)?

Depends where you bought it, you might wanna see this: eBay Guides - FAKE Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo MagicGate Cards Exposed
If you got it from a regular joe seller aka not amazon or ebay, chances are you got a fake one ;x
-
Oh no. I got it from a Game Stop for $20
Edit: Checked it through PSP. It is Magic Gate Supported,

Honestly Idk wtf is wrong w/ yours, try it again and this time don't press any buttons at all when you turn it on.
Remember, the pandora should not allow you to turn on (being able to view the XMB) your PSP, rather, boot up into service mode.
-
Finally broken. Just used PSPGrader v.006.
Hacked it like a fucking charm.
Now updating to v5.00 m33

It may sound kinda silly but I was considering getting a PSP around when Dissidia is coming out in the US and I was wondering what the advantages of cracking the thing are. I know a possible risk is ruining the PSP...
-
with pandoras accessible and probably someone with one near you who knows what they're doing, the risk of bricking your PSP is pretty low. even if you totally ruin the flash, unless i'm mistaken, you just pop a pandora in, slap the flash on an MC (like the poster above did) and BLAMMO your PSP works like new again.

A hacked PSP is like having a N4 chip for the DS.
It lets you play games without needing the actual physical copy of the disc.
Or pirate.
Either way, I'm enjoying play BoF3 on it right now.
Edit: Then there's homebrew applications. Gonna look at those when I get an 8gb memory stick.
-
i've found homebrew apps like NES/SNES emulators to give the device more of a lifespan for me than the actual games i've bought for it. having access to a tremendous library of my old games while on long trips and plane rides is an invaluable resource, especially w/o the need to bring 45 losable DS carts for remakes of the games or spending a bunch of money to re-buy what i already own a copy of. also, running a game off a memory stick is far cheaper on the battery, so there's a great reason to load your games onto memory sticks (plus the much smaller form factor.) if you know you'll play only a small set of games on your trip, just pony up for a couple of beefy memory cards, load them all on the cards and leave your disks at home.
